sounds like ur timing is off a bit and u might be running to lean chevy all vacum lines and ur intake mainfold by starting it up and get a can of starter fulid and let it run adn spary it around the intake manifold and the head and if teh idol rasies then ur intakemanifold leaks

trucks been sittin a few weeks.. did some major bodywork and what not on it.. But i finally got it running again.. I put new plugs, wires and a coil on it, and it fired right up. i think maybe the gap on the plugs was wrong or something, and it fouled a plug or two, the plugs were black as shit.. and when i looked at em. the gap looked alot larger than it should have been.

yeah. every time i think its running.. it just gets screwed up again.. i think im gonna get rid of the truck. it fired up, no problem with the plugs and wires and shit.. So i thought everythin was cool. let it sit for a while. and started workin on the body more... gettin it ready for shows.. Went to go take it for a drive yesterday, and it took forever to crank over.. when it finally started.. it ran for all of 2 minutes and smoked insanely.. then shut off.

There was no gas at all in that little window thingy.. So i assumed there was no gas getting to the carb. Changed the fuel pump. still no luck.. So i thought maybe the sending unit was screwed..

I put my other carb back on, and i unhooked all the lines. blew out the fuel line with a compressor.. just in case somethin had plugged the line, or something. I put a poland spring bottle on one end of the gas line, and blew from the other end with teh compressor. Bit of gas came out. but nothing solid, that coudl have been blocking it.. So i filled hte poland spring bottle back up with gas. and just stuck the fuel line to the bottom of it, and cranked it.. IT sucked out all the gas from the bottle.. so the fuel pump is working for sure.

Then i hooked the liens back up to the sending unit. And took the main fuel hose that goes to the carb. And put a bottle on the end of that. and cranked it.. It filled up with gas. So the sending unit is cool. Hooked it back up to the carb, And that little window now has gas in it. But its like 3/4 full.. so its passed that little line..

It started, but kept dying and running shitty..


What i think is happening is the carb is flooding it.. and that causes it to blow out spark plugs.

I dont know what the hell is going on with it.. should i try and get a new carb or what?

I just want to get it running so i can get rid of it.. Im so pissed at this pile of shit right now, i just dont want anyhting to do with it anymore.. Ive owned it since febuary.. And since ive owned it.. its ran all of 3 weeks.

my truck does the same thing, check your exhaust. it sounds to me like you dont have any back pressure. ive got a weber if youre intrested...needs the adaptors and a filter but its better than the factory carb.

i guess its possible.. I have 1 cat. just the one right under the manifold.. The other was removed for some reason.. And my muffler fell off.. Had a flowmaster 40 series on it lol Ill weld it back on.. see whats up. But i drove it without the muffler for a few days with no trouble..

How much you want for that weber anyway? i mgiht see if my dad will loan me the money for the kit. But if not, i might need it.

alright.. well i brought my uncle and his buddy over to look at it.. Theres a list of shit that was wrong with it.. we got it going pretty nice now tho..

Basically when i was driving it that night.. and heard the pop noise.. That was the carb backfiring adn blowing up the pcv valve. So it had a huge leak.

Then the dude who put the truck together, left half a gasket on the intake manifold.. so it wasnt sealed right..

Then the choke pullback wasnt working on the spare carb i put on it..

The original carb, that wasnt getting gas, was because of some floater pin or something got stuck adn plugged the inlet.. So yea, just tapped it with a hammer lightly and it cleared it up. ITs running mint now.. I still have some shit to take care of on it.. But its not bad.. it should be at least drivable now..
