don't know how to check the coil. but i was thinking maybe a bad float?? if your float gets a hole in it, it will get fuel in it throwing it off. i have a feeling it has something to do with the carb. but don't take my word for it.

I think its the carb also. The truck sat for 6 years in a storage unit before I got it. I put some new gas in it and flushed the lines hoping there was crap in the lines, but nothing came out and the fuel filter looked good when I cut it open to look at it.

It seems line it might be running a little rich and possible flooding it. Is there an easy way to check the float or does it require tearing the carb down?

On the drivers side of the carb there is a sight glass.Put the truck on level ground, take air cleaner off and look at the glass. There is an etched line on the glass that shows where the gas level should be. If the gas level is over the line, truck will run too rich and bog down.Too low and truck will run too lean, backfire and not have much power.BJ

If u still have the stock Hanjin coil, I would suggest getting an MSD or Accel aftermarket coil and replace the old one. Made a world of difference in the way my 92 2200 runs-also improved the gas mileage. BJ

try the fuel pump?

I havnt messed with the fuel pump. Not sure how to check it to see if its up the spec. I can see fuel flowing in the fuel filter, but other than that I dont know if it would be bad and need replaced.

The pumps on carb trucks are pretty anemic anyway so if u can see fuel flowing u are probably ok.It might be an issue at hi rpm when carb might be fuel starved but that would cause lean run and backfiring etc. which is not what u r describing.BJ

yeah Im good at high RPM. I drove the truck about 30 miles down the highway at 75 mph with no problems. Its just starting out is kinda difficult. Ill check the float and see where Im at with that and see what happens.

Check connections. I had a car that everytime it rained or whatever the wires going into the firewall would get wet. Then it would bog when you hit the pedal, but then come out of it and run great. Good luck!

if you are going to check the float than go buy a rebuild kit, it will have all the gaskets you will need and i think that they also come with a new float and you just have to adjust it. if it doesn't do it to bad i really wouldn't worry to much about it. when i rebuilt my engine, i also rebuilt the carb. and never could get it right, so i just bought a redline carb, and replaced it. that may not be an option for you because they are kind of pricey but i haven't had any problems since.
