First off, I would like to know what the heck you are doing installing another used engine? lol..

Secondly, the throttle linkage should be installed, which is from the manufacturer.

The plates of which you are talking about are your butterflies. These are controlled by your choke. From what I can see, it appears it is electric.

The actual plates that you would want to worry about opening is your throttle plates. They are the plates at the bottom of the carb.

The spring and 2-holed oblong tab is for more throttle spring tension. Although, Even with mine installed it still does'nt take much pressure at all to over-rev her...

Go buy a bolt (Don't remember what size) from the hardware store and install the tab on your intake by the carb. There should be two tapped holes. Install the spring and then install it onto the throttle linkage via a small pinhole where the throttle cable goes.

I love you guys. I just noticed the throttle plates are out of sync but they do both open all the way. Is that cool?
BTW: the used engine I installed was out of my truck that I had been driving for almost a year, that truck was wrecked badly in the front end when I got it but I just didnt care until I found the red truck with a bad engine and good body.

It is a progressive carb. Meaning that the throttle plate connected to the throttle linkage directly, will open first. As you open the throttle more, the secondary will open up, delivering more air/fuel. So ya, its cool...

You should have atleast engine gunked it!

I used one of the EGR bolts for the throttle spring retainer, the piece with the two holes. The spring goes in the other hole, and up to the throttle arm, to close down the carb when you take your foot off the accelerator pedal.

What was the verdict on getting the engine in? What was stopping it from aligning?

The carb is in, now i just gotta fill her w/fluids tomororw after school. The engine was just a pain in the ass to align. I took 1 of the side things that bolts to the engine and bellhousing off (2 bolts in the block and 2 bolts in the bellhosuing), I moved the crane to go all the way extended, and I removed the fan and radiator. I jacked the engine and trans up a lot then just slowly lowered both of them until they started to align. Patience and a clear mind is key.

Geez, sounds fun!

Glad to see you got it in!

I got it running today and it smokes like a mofo. All the holes in the exhasut manifold that had emissions shit in it are open except the o2 sensor hole so I ordered a header today. I only ran it for about 30 seconds twice because white smoke pours out of the exhaust pipe and through the holes in the manifold. I just put a new Weber on it, should I adjust it somehow? I didnt put a fuel pressure regulator on it because Hexors said he didnt use one and his ran fine. Is it maybe pushing too much fuel through the carb or something? Also, check out how I have the throttle cable on the adapter thing, i dont see any other way of getting it on there effectively. Watcha think? Thanks peeps

white smoke? is it really sweet smelling? cause normally white smoke means you have a blown head gasket. was it running good when you pulled it out of the other truck?

exactly what i was gonna say.... check your radiator see if its bubbling like lil air bubbles...
