you can run an external oiler and not have to take apart the compressor. only things you will need is an external oiler, oil/water trap, check valve, fittings, pressure switch, air tank, and air line.

This is a correct parts list I did this conversion about a year ago. If your just cutting the AC hoses you will need hose clamps as well.
Here is what I did
cut hoses
Install spade fittings FYI The spade fittings are two diffrent sizes just take a small piece of your hose to a fitting place and they can hook ya up.
install oiler on the intake with a air filter on the intake of the oiler
install oil/water trap at the tank along with check valve
Run a single wire from the AC to the pressure switch
Using this setup Works great I add oil every couple of weeks but keep in mind my roadster does not drive around much so I am not sure how much oil you will need to add and drain from the trap.
Here are a couple of photos of what I did hope it helps There is a air filter and hose clamps on it now this was an old photo

You also need a relay for the pressure switch.

Do you need a relay? I didnt put one on mine....do you think it draws to much? Also i just found a place that has the water filter its at sears $20 3/8 in and 3/8 out and good to 175 (we only run 145) There is a plastic cover over the glass part i cut the bottom half off so i could see if i needed to drain it.

When I ran mine without a relay it fried my pressure switch in the on postion. Then the water trap exploded into a billion pieces because of the pressure the pump puts out.
