gravity5: I am VERY interested in this! What about the proportioning valve on the firewall? Wouldn't you need a different one if you swap the rear drums with disks?

I will go to the junk yard and pull parts if needed for you to work your magic!

BTW I am currently running 16" American Racing wagon wheels.

yes the proportion valve would need to be different...I would recomend a willwood unit as it is adjustable.

Well the Willwood ones I've seen are only one line in and one line out. Mine has 2 in/2 out!

i have looked in circle track magazine at stock car parts and you can buy wilwood brake hats, caliper, and rotors and the brackets really cheap, they also have proportioning valves and master cylinders this could leave you only having to machine 6 lug brake hats for mazda hubs and bolt everything else on. they are selling these parts for stock cars though so i don't know what kind of streetability issues you might run into

wouldnt be this lot would it?

Check this link... putting these on my dog via Max's custom toy splindle

cheers, cool setup, the rotors are a bit thin for hard core use though 20mm is stock. i'm thinking maybe oem replacement silvia turbo or skyline turbo rotors with some sort of 5 stud hub and i dont know what rotors yet, maybe nissan ones, or maybe some brand new ones if i can get them as cheaply as you lot in the states seem to be able to

the max spindle you mention, is it designed to fit the mazda truck with the toy hub? or is it for a toy, and you use the same tricks/hacks to attach it to the mazda arms? or custom arms too?

i'm afraid i'm very much stock with regards suspension at this stage. though i'll probably end up with some sort of irs rear if i ever take it that far

I'm with bj on this one, unless your dropping in a v6 or v8, or just want the killer look of big brakes, the aftermarket s&d rotors & a good set of pads & braided lines should suffice to stop our trucks.

yeah, there was a post with that link ( ) several months back, they look to be a quality deal, but will pinch the wallet
pretty good....

as far as the rearends go, with out much modifications you can put a
84-85 rx-7 gsl-se rear in these trucks which will give you disc brakes and lsd in the chunk. the best part is all replacement parts for these rears are available at local parts stores or online. this conversion can be done for a fraction of the cost of a big brake kit in the rear. (note the axle shafts will have to be drilled to a 5 lug as they come in a 4x4.5 pattern and the hub of the rotor won't support the use of the oem 6 lug pattern.)

i can knock something together for either end no worries, just curious about what there is off the shelf

the only reason i'd swap from my "built" 8" LSD mazda rear is if i cant turn it into 5 stud (if i decide to go 5 stud) or need lsd for handling.

i'm not into super low like virtually everyone else on these minitrucking boards, but i do love the look of them!

just checked out badchicns ute, and i LOVE it, no one had rated it, so i gave it 10/10

btw, i know my brakes, and have 700C custom made mintex m1166 full race pads on it, and although i admit, they will work, they certainly wont last if you are repeatedly hard on them...

and i am, so i literally NEED good brakes, besides, i'm making probably over 350hp (i calculate about 385 at the crank) no dyno though, but it swallows 2.2 litres of fuel each minute at full noise empty the tank in 25minutes going quickly!

fred.

Max will take a Mazda stock or dropped spindle and modify it to use the Toy parts...so it is a bolt on deal. In my case however, the front end is so wasted from years of abuse(dragging) that it needs to be replaced. Max is going to install the whole Toy front clip in my truck. That gets me the right bolt pattern to match my 89 Toy rear, but I wanted the big brakes too. There is a small block chevy in my future.
