i appreciate your input man! truely. i really don't see upgrading anything from the point its at, once we get the head unit in and amps and subs. if the rear door speakers blow for some reason, we'll replace them with something on the cheap side and still run em off deck power, if at all...
yeah i'm really not stoked about buying new subs- perhaps just one. like i said, i'm not looking for a boom car or anything, just a sub to pick up what the smaller speakers won't put out. i'd like to do components, and get it sounding like a true soundstage, but hey its a diesel truck after all. and its my wife's, so i'd rather dump money elsewhere

i tell you what ive heard several times a good radio "wake up" a ford f-series sound system. id put the radio in and see how that sounds. them replace the front speakers then. hell you might not have to amp the front speakers. then all you gotta do is a sub. if you come across a single sub with low rms you can run the kicker or the alpine at 4ohm mono and keep the larger amp for that big ass sub.

^^^^^^ That sounds good!!! Especially if you don't want a BOOM-BOOM system. An Alpine SWS-1023D would probably be best because it can be wired for 4ohm, has a depth of 4.3" and has a very low box volume. Plus it can be bought for $70 online. Your Alpine amp would power this sub nicely, especially with no amp powering the front speakers!!! Keep that big amp for your big sub for resale value!!!

resale? i do still have a mazda that needs a stereo!! lol

so you guys like the alpine type s subs? or the SWS-1023D? that's a pretty good price, if its quality stuff...
its $129 at crutchfield, and $64 at etronics.com, but outta stock. lol huge price dif... i don't want the salesman's pitch, just honest opinions

oh, and any special reason to go with dual 2 ohm voice coil vs 4 ohm?
isaacstyles92   +1y
Well, Alpine type-s only comes in dual voice coils. Your options are dual 4ohm or dual 2ohm. Dual 4ohm can only be wired for 2ohm or 8ohm amps but a dual 2ohm can be wired for 1ohm or 4ohm amps. Your Kicker and Alpine amps only support 4ohm operation in bridged mode.

and since its a dual voice coil sub, i'd wire, say, the 2 channel alpine amp, one channel to each voice coil on the sub?

yeah but you need to connect it parellel or series too the bottom pic shows a 4ohm load ,if you bridge that ,it will be a 4ohm bridge but the amp will see 2ohms
