My first post in audio! i have some sub box/amp ??'s

to bring back an old thread... i have a sub question now. i was talking with a buddy and he's recommended a JL 10 w0 or 10 w1 for better sound quality over the alpine type S woofer. very similar pricing, but with this alpine amp i have its @ 4ohm 160 x 1(dunno if that's peak or RMS). i don't know if thats enough power to drive the 10 w1.(which seems like a much better sub for only $20 more.)
10 w0 - 150W RMS and 300 PEAK
10 w1 - 300W RMS and 600 PEAK
will that amp push the w1?

oh and the 10 w1 has a rubber surround where the 10 w0 has a foam surround. i'd think rubber would be better than foam

the surround really doesnt matter much. both are just as good .

as far as a w1 being better then a type S. it is a little better. not much IMO. btw... what is the impedence of the w1? is it dual 2 ohms or 4 ohms? if you can only wire to 4 ohms, 160 watts will push it but not to its full potential. 160 is more then likely the rms rating.

both the w0 and w1 are single 4ohm voice coil

I think the w1 is a more efficient sub and will do well with what power you have. And jl makes a nice grille that's fits the w1 nicely.
