Damn it................

So as it turns out I got everything done the dash back together, I never realized how tight of a fit the glove box was when it was closed and the ash tray oh and the trim piece that goes around the steering column......

So I will let the pics tell you. Overall I am happy I just need to clean the tweed so the dust will come off and such.

The extra fabric thats still on was drying and didnt wanna rush cutting it and such so I let it sit. You can kinda see around the glove box were it was such a tight fit it actually pulled some of the tweed around the edges off just so I could open it back up.

No the edges on the right hand side are not done, wont take 10 mins to finish it

See the clearance problems doesn't look like much in pics but in person its a eye grabber well at least for me because I no its there but its still annoying.

At least the colors look good toghether lol

Damnit.......... I tryed my best to use 1 WHOLE piece of tweed and I got that covered all except for this. lol see were I didnt have enough? oh well no biggie.

This is a great example of how tight it was to get this piece in and to pull it back out it pulled some tweed off.

And the other corner that didnt quite have enough.

So my question is well options. I really dont wanna cut down the piece of trim that goes around the glove box and ash tray doing thing would kinda create the fabric to look loose if you no what I mean. I tryed to cut down as much as I can of it and have the edges still seem clean but it didnt quite get the job done.

So the only real good thing I can think of would be to take the blue tweed back off those objects sand them down and paint them. This meaning my blue tweed is useless but hey it happens.

Or does anyone no any other way for me to get this 2-3 items to fit properly. Thanks guys for all the feedback

oh 1 more question, whats the best thing to use on cleaning tweed?

just a thought, maybe strip the tweed off the few items and sand the edges a little lower. that way you can still use the tweed, and it wont be near as tight. just an opinion, it could work. by the way man, that shit looks awesome as hell man, hate to see you go through that work just to strip it back down and paint the extra two or three items. maybe you could check the junkers and get the extra pieces and trim them to find out if that would work, good luck and keep the pictures coming!!!

Theres no way I could sand that much shit off for them to close properly, I keep racking my head trying to figure out what i will do to prevent not useing the tweed but its not looking good lol.

Theres about 5 little spots total that I need to go back get a little bit of glue and hold it down, no biggie. I will do this before it goes back in.

i pwesonally think like the defrost vents look badass, i like the blue paint more than the blue tweed, it breaks it up alot more. but hey its your truck, just my openion. but overall as itsets, i like it alot and cant wait to see it in the truck! -bf

i like the blue and black tweed. if you have put this much time in it. i would do this. this is just me but i would pull the tweed back off blue pieces sand it down enough to make it clear. i realize that that would start to make some holes and stuff but sand a little past what you need it for and then use a little glass to fill the hole in but still small enough to clear. then re wrap it in the tweed. but on a side not it looks bad ass man.

^ This is exactly what I was gonna recommend. Have done a lot of velvet work on lowriders and that is exactly what I did. Grind down the edges to create a larger gap. Have used fiberglass, epoxy, and various other products to make the base item more or less smooth (i.e. 60 grit sandpaper smooth), then covered with fabric. Would have recommended earlier but was not sure how an 83 dash looked / fit together. Some projects I have done had no issues at all. Honestly, I have had more problems with newer stuff fitting to tight.

ahh I see what yall are saying. Hell ya not a bad idea at all that should work out perfect. I will give it a shot tommarow night but for now I gotta catch up on some sleep.

As I gotta pull the blue tweed back off, I'ma sand my glove box down to make it smooth and spray it in the blue paint I got and see how it comes out, if I am feeling it more than the blue tweed I will roll with it but who knows.

Or I will take a poll.

Thanks for the comments guys.

bahhhhhhhhh, So i was looking at the glove box to see how much I could knock down off the corners and make it fit, but it wouldnt happen because what it mounts to would have to be sanded/grinded down as hell.

But I did try it on the ash tray I wrapped it and It came out lookin like shit, I dont came to far into this to start cutting corners and such.

So tommarow morning I will go to the junkyard and grab one off the 84 they have there. Gonna sand them all done and paint them the blue I have.

So I started the awsome process of sanding and smoothing my misc interior pieces and started spraying them with the blue paint I had.

The parts I picked up from the junkyard for the interior.

This is just like a little empty din that goes in the trim piece that goes by the steering column
