why not do a bag over bar setup. more lift and a better ride and your bars are def big enough. just an option. i plan on doing that on my 83 but on my 89 i have a rx7 rear that i will be installing so it is completely different.

Well i had planned on the bars but after making the bars and really looking at it and seeing the force that the bar would see all the time, i just didnt feel good about it. If i would have went square i might have went that way. This is gonna be my sons first ride and he will be driving the crap out of it so i think bags on the rear will be the safer more durable way to go for him. This is the first time we have done somthing like this so im kinda staying on the safer more reliable once we get it done and get some miles on it we may tinker a bit more with it. I set the lower bars so that the bags would clear and after changing to the rear i left them inboard so if he want to go on the bars later he will just have to add upper plates. Thanks for the feedback, Craig

just for future reference, i learned from devb22 that the round bars are better to run bag over bar than the square bars. the round bars are stronger than the square. and you could always gusset the bars for strength.

how old is your son? and what kind of car is that in your avatar? my old man helps a guy race sprint cars. they race in the gulf south regionals. dirt racing is a blast to watch!

My son is 15 will be 16 in june. Yes i talked with dev allot before i started the bags He is the one that sold me all my stuff....Thanks dev. I agree they will be stronger and im not worried about the bars its the force it puts on the bushing...all the time. The car is a IMCA type Modified open wheel dirt car. Yes it is.... it is the biggest rush you can imagine doing 85 mph to 115 on dirt depending on track size. If you goto you tube and type in Grays harbor there are plenty of clip from are track.

Are those 2 inch o.d. lower bars? What wall thickness are they? I have a set of suicide doors lower bag on bar brackets that I will get rid of if you are interested let me know. The ones I have are like the ones on the right.

No they are 1 1/4 .120 wall I needed 1 1/2 but the weld in bungs fit the 1 1/4 so i went that way. I have the mounts allready i am gonna just open them up so they fit on the rear nice and snug.

I have to say this has been an awsome build to watch. I really enjoy the fact that it is a father/ son build. My next project (hopefully starting soon) will hopefully be a daughter/ father build. She is only eight but at 6 years old I had her using an air rachet to help the old man strip parts trucks. Very inspiring and good way to teach the future respect and good ol values.
