Well I pulled the head off the Howler. An oil leak was driving me crazy and after washing down the engine, I discovered oil pouring from between the head and block. It looks like the head gasket gave away around the oil passage. Anyway, the common lifter noise was also getting louder. I suspect due to the loss of oil pressure to the valve train. SO THAT HAPPENED. I don't think this truck likes me.
Well maybe I will win the battle...but it doesn't feel that way right now. I really don't know how this dawg was running. The cylnder walls were deeply pitted with rust? It looked like the block had sat a loooooong time with water in the cylnders. Now the whole engine is out of her. I was going to start the tear down on my roadster, but it looks like an engine rebuild is going to kill my money.
Almost done with the motor. Gonna go pester the machine shop today. I am dying to tweak on this truck again... In other news, my dad finally agreed to give me his beat down 1965 El Camino. It has no motor, but i figure to horse trade the parts from my 59 for a re-built engine. I was sick of seeing that truck in my back yard anyway. Now I just have to break the news to the wifey that another project is comming home.
