Hey Rick. I wanted to ask you about the mirrors on this truck. I dug up this thread yesterday to see what they came off of. I'm going to see if the local yeard has any. Was there anything to swapping them out or did you just take the head off and rebolt the new one on. I really like them and thought i'd ask. Thanks...

Justin,
It is a super easy swap. I used the stock Mazda mount and bolted the toyota head (I think from a 94 4-runner?) It takes about 5 min per side. I think those mirrors were on the mid- to -late nineties Tacoma too. I think you will really like them, because it has a large viewing area, unlike most custom mirrors. Every custom mirror I owned (like turbos and peeps ) were worthless in California traffic.

thanks man. I'm gonna be on the look out for me some. I figured it was gonna be a easy enough swap i just wanted to make sure. Thanks for the info....

Well, I get to work on it this weekend. Hopefully, the rain will clear. It has been pouring here all day.

The plan is to change my grill for the Ranger headlight grill I have been working on and add the other bumper to it. I can't decide if I want to put my 4 runner bumper on or the stocker with the chrome trimm.

It was a beautiful weekend. So I actually did some work on the Ol' Howler. It started with an oil change. (New motor and all) I wanted to remove the break-in oil. Then moved on to removing the drive shaft to replace the ripped rear tranny seal. With the truck on jack stands, I moved the rear through its range of motion. The drive shaft wasn't "donky punching" the trans like I thought. There is an accepable amount of clearance. I think when the rear was replaced the boot tore/ wasn't lubed properly. The good news is no leaks for now. So alway lube your shaft!

Then Sunday came and I heard a new cruize night was happenin'. I thought it would be good to start installing the neon kit that was collecting dust in my man cave (garage).

1) I started by laying out the kit and testing it with a 12V battery from my drill. If you do this, make sure you have the correct polarity plus to + and negative to -. IDK if there would be an adverse effect to not doing this, but some electronics are very sensitive to reverse polarity. Everything tested OK.
