but atleast with the tubing there is some shielding, and you draw colder air from another source... this is what the end at my throttle body looks like now...

here is the rest of the kit before i finished up at the throttle body...

You really should add tube to the intake. You will be pulling in hot air from the exhaust.

Sorry been away but I switched jobs and didn't have access to the internet, now I have it at home. Also now that I am not a mechanic for a living I got to bring all my tools home, makes working on stuff actually enjoyable again.

I can't believe how little we got done with the truck in 3 years. But school keeps kids very busy anymore, especially if they are in sports and other extracurricular. But here is where we are.

Took the motor out in the fall, had started to work on bagging it when we decided to take care of the anemic engine while we were at it.

There it sat over the cold Nebraska winter. He was so busy with sports and school that it took us 6 months to get the motor out of the donor car.

Tomorrow we see if it will actually fit in the truck. If so all will be revealed. I have never seen one of these engines in a Mazda, but there probably is one or two out there. It isn't really all that radical, but I think it should be pretty neat. And still get decent mileage.

I think it is going to fit. Need to get a shorter oil pan, switch to electric fan, move the coil packs or go to cop, go to an electric or hydroboost brake system, and probably a million other things.

It is a sohc 4.6 out of a 96 ford crown vic. $500 running and driving with right at 100,000 miles.

The plans call for having the 8.8 narrowed, get disc brakes out of the deal. Not sure if I will have it drilled for 6 lugs or switch the front to match.

Opinions? I know there are probably ten motors that would be easier to swap and probably give more power and be easier to hop up, but I thought this would be neat.

hell ya! cant beat that for $500!

Nice deal man

I think it was going to cost us more to fix the 2.6 that was in it, then we paid for the car. Distributor and cpu problems.

I think we are going to get an aftermarket wiring harness for the engine, and maybe even rewire the truck. If it wasn't originally fuel injected I think it would have been much simpler.

I need to find some block hugger headers or make some, that should help with exhaust clearance.

And now I just got an email from a guy responding to my craigslist ad for the engine, he has a good regular cab box to trade, the regular cab beds look better imo.

So has anyone seen this swap before? What do you guys think of it?

I don't know much about ford engines, but would think that if the crown vic had both a 4.6, or could be had with a 5.0 that the swap should be almost identical between the two for engine mounts, and much of the other required modification for mating to the mazda systems...
