That's the first 4.6 swap I've seen in a Mazda B Series, it's even uncommon for Rangers because of the width.

Welcome back Husker

Trucks tv on spike has a ranger build going (actually was a Mazda) .. started with a mild 4.6 swap now gone crazy 5.4 super charged.. might get some ideas from there. It's been a really interesting $$ no object build. Good luck, that is a very wide engine.

It is very wide. We pulled the exhaust manifolds off and the crossmember and stuck it back in and it looks really good. Stock hood should fit and I think the stock brake booster.

The 4.6 and 5.0 don't share much if anything. The 4.6 was a replacement for the 5.0.

I think I could use the frame part of the motor mount, but it might be just as easy to custom build that then to try and make a motor mount that will work with the stock mazda frame mount.

Found some headers I think will work

I don't know how much bigger the 5.4 is but I would be curious to see if that would be the next step. For about $5500 he can just get a Ken Belle supercharger and put out an easy 500 rwhp.

Trying to decide if getting the Teskid aluminum block would be worth the trouble.

Go-to PowerBlock.com and I think you can findinfo on the 5.4, I think external it's the same as the 4.6.. they're build uses Corbra irs in the rear, stretched front suspension.. it's wild.

I know the 5.4 is a little taller and a little wider, not sure by how much. I found this picture kind of interesting.

How do you guys think it would look to stretch the front fenders about 2" between the cab and wheel arch. That way I could move the front wheels 2" forward. I think that would give us some nice room, and move the weight a little further to the rear for better handling.

Need to find a couple of banged up fenders to section and see how it looks. Or if someone has a little time with photoshop to make a quick pic.

Got a little done today, not much didn't go great. Started by needing to take the driver side torsion bar off, already had the passenger side off. Can't get the bolts off, even with the impact, figured the 10 year old walmart special probably wasn't up to the task anymore. Ran into town picked up a new chicago pneumatic impact gun from napa and some sawzall blades. Got the torsion bar off. And did some work.

Cut the stock motor mounts off the frame. Of course I forgot to get some grinding disks. I really need a plasma cutter!

Had the idea to use the stock crown vic tranny crossmember, so I cut it down. It doesn't look like it will work to good, the stock crossmember brackets are in the way. I think I need to hunt down a stock manual tranny crossmember. If we cut the mounts for the stock tranny crossmember off it might work but thought I would try a different route first.

I cut the stock engine crossmember out of the crown vic also. Think if I trim it down I can weld it in the frame. I am hoping I can get rid of that little stock crossmember btw the control arms by doing this.

Then had to clean up before the thunderstorm.

You are a brave man. And I thought I had a tough swap ahead of me...

Keep up the good work!

Actually after we took the exhaust manifolds off it is going to fit pretty decent. Planning on offsetting it about 1/2"-1" to the passenger side for a little clearance for the steering shaft, but other than that it looks like it will fit really good.

Wiring it up, that is entirely something different!

dang man. i think you can mod the vics crossmember down enough to fit but wont it be too high for the truck to lay out
