that sounds like your park safety switch, can you wiggle the shifter around some like the bushings are going bad, mine did this and it was not pushing the switch in all the way so it didnt think it was in park

i had to replace my nutral switch so maybe

by pass it see if it starts

whats by passing ? yesterday on the way to a club meat i saw this yota in a parking lot and i just couldnt pass without pictures

bypassing is were you take and make a temp setup for something to work to see if its the prob or something else,try taking the wires for the switch and puting them together and see if it will start that way if it will then the switch is bad, get a new one and put it in,prob fixed, if it dont you now know its not the switch and can look on to other parts that keep it from starting and do the same

Any advice on why my speedometer cable wont work ?

When it got safetied and e tested the mechanic said it needed a new speedo cable so he had to get it from the dealer. Mine was aparently broken 4 inchs down. When i left the parking lot the speedo worked. When i started to slow down it seemed like it wanted to die and i had to pump the gas to get it going properly. But i filled up with gas and that seemed to fix that problem. After i got gas i noticed my speedo stopped working. i switched in my guage with the tack. Now the speedometer doesnt work but the RPM , fuel guage work. My temp guage is stuck at high so that doesnt work either. I took out the guage instrument from the dash and made sure everything was plugged in properly and it is. I got a new battery also .the signnals,4 ways,emergency lights all work but my kms dont move and i can here a ticking noise from behind the gauges sounds like they want to turn but cant. And i came to the conclusion that since there is no throttle cable on a carberated engine the speedo cable should be hooked up to the transmission possibly? what should i do to fix this speedometer problem ?

ok from doing it my self sometimes you can plug the speedo cable in but not have it aligned right so it works at slower speeds until you get faster then it just stops, pull the plug and pull the cable out of the sleeve just a little too see it, put it in the right way( aligned) and then push the plug back up to it and on, this should fix it, if not check to see if it came off the trans, there is a coupler on the cable and at the trans, these are 2 places were it can fail

yeah some how mine got jammed back in one time and it wasnt aligned. That was a result from someone else working on my truck....

i just pluggged it in right and it worked fine. hope its an easy fix for you. goodluck
