This Mazda "veteran" says cut it off and start over. You need to come up with a better transition above the rearend. You need to make the tubing meet on the ends instead of just laying some shit on top of each other and welding it. If you but the metal together it gives you a better joint to weld fish plates on the sides which will better reinforce it. I can't think of a good way to help that without looking like an overkill bandaid. If that was brought to my house I'd say the same thing, ditch it.

And before you het all butt hurt cause I pissed in your fruit loops you gotta understand that we have all been there. I've had an idea that sounded good till I started welding then once I got done it looked like ass. It's called trial and error man.

I fully support every sentiment given here including not getting butt hurt. Not saying you will, but most do, and worse yet, they don't even heed the advice given. This is the reason I can't stand this "built not bought" mantra that completely unqualified "builders" have. You have to be willing to constantly learn and improve your skills. I hope you get a safer rear set up back there.

i with mikey on this one man, i know you want something cool, but that there is not safe at all, if the MTO saw that your frame was like that, your truck would be pulled off the road so fast and given a shit load of tickets.
i dont know who told you that was a good idea to do that, but you just need to look at other builds online, other websites and you will see that all 4 sides of the square tube are welded to... another 4 sides of a square tube
please, for the sake of everyone please start over

I agree with the guys you need to start over bro. I told you to come up and I would help you out I know you dont want to spend the monies bro but look again whats there. I can actually help you bro and get you in the right direction. You have the ideas there but you need some one that has done this before and have the equipment and wont let you go until its done right. As midnightmike wrote the mto would yank you off the road so fast you would probably be walking before you realize what happened and the tickets would kill you plusyou would probably never get the truck on the road again if they red flagged it. I want to help bro we can start from scratch right from the back of the cab back. I hope you will not be pissed and get all bent out of shape but we are all here to help not insult anyone you will see that if we did not care we would just not say anything.

Im in complete agreement with all of these guys. That is not safe by any means and the welds i see do not appear to penetrate very much and look to be gobbed on top of the metal. Im going to say cut it all over and start over. Another thing too is that i hope your floor was poured using a laser because im sure its not nice flat and completely level. When you are building a frame like that you cant just hold stuff together and eye ball them and weld them or even hold a level on them because the truck isnt level which will make everything un level. It all looks good in the hood until you try to put the bed back on and at this point it either falls off or nothing lines up and it sits crooked. Again i like the other guys am in no way trying to be a dick just trying to save you time and pain later from when you get any deeper in to this project. Also i would be glad to help you with figuring out some things

those welds look like they would snap any minute with pressure on it.. i say grind them down. get a decent welder with a 220V welder and get him to weld it all up..

Holy smokes , havent been on in a little bit. We decided we wanted to redo the frame anyways we kind did it quickly so we could do the body drop .

on a good note the body drop is 90% done we just need to finish the rear section of the floor.
right now the trucks on jackstands up in the air. My buddy is starting on the front suspension while i finish the body drop.

I understand the welds may look bad but they are shitty cellphone pictures , blackberry cameras dont compare to my old iphone we are using a 240V mig welder it lays nice beads

some teaser photos of the body drop :

Another reason its jacked up right now is so we can hammer the floor upwards from underneith so theres no gaps in the floor , then we can weld that part too

wtf? half inch bd?

you dont need to redo the back.. grind down all the welds and reweld it
mazdadropped   +1y
its a 2" body drop not 1/2" and im going to grind the welds and make some angled cuts then put her back together
