I think my flywheel bolts are leaking oil... I failed to put thread sealant on them...but when I try to turn them off the engine just spins... how do I keep it from turning.. I dont own an air ratchet...

or rear main... how do flywheel bolts leak?

Remove a spark plug and feed a few feet of 1/4 inch cotton rope into the cylinder. When the piston compresses it, the motor stops turning.
To remove it, just turn the crank back the other way.

I don't have an air compressor either (space limitations), but I do have a 1/2 inch electric impact from Harbor Freight, about 15 years now, about $40. I used it today to remove the wheel lugs on my Frontier so I could check the brake pad thickness.

If you can loosen 2 of the bolts, you could wedge an angle iron using two partially-loosened bolts to prevent the engine from turning. Or drill holes in such angle iron as necessary. You could also likely bend some steel and drill a hole to mount it, and use the two ends of the steel to wedge into the flywheel teeth.

Fly wheel bolts leak because they go into the engine where oil

to me but that dont sound right i cant recall on mine but i think there sealed (wouldnt make sense oil would always be on the back side of the bolts there for working there way threw the treads and therefore backing out overtime). i just put lock tight on mine no leaks

also quick trick my mechanic showed me to break a bolt loose get ur ratchet (preferably a good one) shallow socket put it on the bolt hold the ratcheting head of the ratchet smack the end of the ratchet with a hammer breaks em loos every-time and ps i would never put anything in the teeth of the fly wheel thats shade tree mechanic crap good way to break a tooth

I am hearing some people say no sealant is necessary and others say its a must.im gonna pull this flywheel off and if theres oil coming out around thd bolts then im gonna say theyre correct.lol.

it kinda makes sense that these bolts would need a thread sealant being that theres 40 to 80 pounds of pressure inside wanting to get out... lol . without the bolts theres a clear passage to the pressurized fluid

thats whats up guess so i used blue lock tight on mine gonna get under there tomorrow and look threw the inspection plate see if i see any oil i know its not dripping oil just wanna check
