You'll be able to tell by looking when there are no "unsanded" parts showing on the bottom of the thermostat housing. Mine actually rocked back and forth on when put on a flat surface. I think it just warped a little over the decades.

Or get a new water outlet for $23 at AutoZone, but you'd have to order, should have with a day or two.

i jus took a look at the water outlet, and how exactly do you install it? dos it replace the thermostat housing? does the thermostat stay in the water outlet?

The thermostat itself sits vertical in the cylinder head, with the little "toggle pin" at the top. The "water outlet" is the metal housing that keeps the thermostat in place. There will be a new gasket, and lightly coat with Permatex Aviation or RTV.

I suggest jacking up right front corner of the truck so less coolant is lost, and that the thermostat will stay in place as you position the gasket and water outlet housing.

Don't overtighten.

update**

i have replaced the upper hose, thermostat, and thermostat gasket. im gonna take a look tomorrow throughout the day after classes to see if the leak continues.

so unfortunately, now its leaking even worse than before i messed with it. and its leaking from another spot. like straight down under the carb is a port i guess and a tube goes in there from the battery direction, and its leaking from in there now.

and the leaks arent drops. theyre like streams. like if you turn your faucet on slowly and the solid stream starts, thats what it is. but i dont have the money to take it to a shop :/ im sol

Seriously, replace all your hoses (the ones you havent already done) and make sure you use good screw type hose claps.
It'll give you a good chance to inspect all your fittings for corrosion and damage and allow you to fix them before fitting new hoses.
Old coolant allows acid build up in the cooling system, it can really weaken and rot hoses. Your old top radiator looked like it was bulging a bit which tends to mean the braided reinforcement in the hose has begun to stretch or rot, and if one hose has started to go, the others are usually of a similar age and condition, even if they look ok visually.

hmm would you happen to know all the hoses? and locations? i dont have a manual
would the auto store know what to replace?

I looked at your previous photos, but I think they're "too" close-up for me to see. I'm not aware of any coolant lines of any kind behind the battery on a B2200. So maybe zoomed-out photos would at least help me or others.

Could a previous owner have added a supplemental cooler or something?

ill take a couple pics and post it when i get home from class.

i really appreciate all your help!!
