I had the same surgeing problem that so many have posted about. The problem I found with mine was the vacuum advance wasnt working. At about 2500 rpm it would miss and surge sitting in the driveway or driving down the street. I replaced the vacuum advance and checked the vacuum hoses for cracks and solved the problem. Its easy to check just take the dist cap off hook a piece of vacuum hose to the advance and suck on the hose and watch and see if it holds vacuum if not repalce it.

LOL this might sound silly, but I just used some motomaster carb and combustion chamber cleaner, (sort of an imitation seafoam) and my engine is running better, and the surging seems to be gone. More power too! I'd recomend giving this a shot to anyone out there.

I'm very aware of this, it was just a little, and just to get me home from the airport, also upon further inspection I don't have a cat lol
Update also my mileage still isn't very good

an analog multimeter will most likely have an adjustable dwell meter on it. i have an old snap on unit from the early 80's and it works perfectly. it just so happens to have a dwell meter setting on it also!

so... now i've done plugs, wires, cap, rotor, carb cleaner (did more yesterday) and still having this issue... it seems to only be happening at mid-high rev's and i can get past it usually by backing off and really easing on the pedal to slowly get up to speed....
it's a warmer day today (rain) so i no longer think it's related to the cold
about to go check my multimeter's to see if they have dwell now, also still need to check my vacuum advance... at least i got the basics covered now

good and bad...
i don't think i have a multimeter with dwell... though not totally sure how to tell, will it just say dwell or is there a symbol for it?
i see no "dwell" or % sign anywhere on them...
other good - my vacuum advance *seems* to be working
all i had was shrink tube to hook up and suck on... is this the required movement to say that it's functioning?
that leads to another bad.... i'm still having the surging issue... guess i should buy a multimeter with dwell :p
