after

cleaned up all of the valves so they are good to go now.

today i set the head in the hot tank again today for round 2. it came out pretty clean, not as clean as i would like it but hey its all good. Unfortunately i wasnt able to extract two bolts that were broken off where the valve cover goes so i dropped it off at the machine shop. So ill be picking it up tomorrow. Here is what the head looks like now.

got the other weber mounted to the intake mani

cleaned the windage tray

and this is what the block looks like now after hours of cleaning by hand with a brush and a cup of solvent lol....

Plans for tomorrow. I'm going to start resealing the bottom end starting with the rear main and oil pump, then work my way up the motor. I would like to have a complete motor by days end. But if not i ope atleast the head is bolted down to the bock. And yes I will be installing my painted Magnum cover...

thanks man

little update. Today i got the bottom end put together for the most part. I'm still waiting on the head. So i got the cam seal in, the new water pump gasket, and the rear main all situated. Last i got the windage tray, oil pickup, and oil pan all on. Tomorrow ill be doing brackets for accessories.

I need to get a new woodruff (sp) key. i dont know how you spell it, but the key that indexes the timing pulley on the crank.

took a huge step today with the mazda. Pretty proud of my self lol. Today i started removing the brackets for the acessories and quickly realized the motor was ready to come out. So... I took it out lol. Took all the brackets off and swaped them over to my block. I wasnt able to get the head until after class today. But the bottom end is abou t90% finished. Just need to get a woodruff key, install the timing pulley, timing belt, tensioner, pulley, crank pulley, flywheel and clutch. but i will be doing the head first. heres a few pics...

ok so big update. i got the motor together and in the mazda, got everything mounted up, connected, nad lubed. i have to replace the radiator tho. the drain plug is leaking. I have a spare sittin around ill be using. when everything was ready to go i disconnected the coil and just cranked the motor for a few seconds to get everything primed up, after i did that i hooked up the coil, and boom she fired the 1st go around.

Future plans (and by future i mean this week):
Swap out radiators
grind mounting tabs
balance and re mount wheels on truck
finish exhaust.
tq down motor mount bolts
tq down trany mount bolts
then the she will be ready to cruise after some tuning. here are the pics.

valves and springs all in and ready for cam and rocker arm assy.

intake mani, head, and valve cover all on and tq'd to spec

flywheel, clutch and pressure plate all mounted up

first shot of motor in, factory exhaust is still in the engine bay..

picked this beauty up off craigslist for $60

all cleaned up, sanded (used a grinder, scotch bright pads, and acetone)

after two coats of VHT Flameproof paint

motor installed with everything hooked up just after it ran

im not sure if its running properly, couldnt really tell while i was running open headers. but it idled on its own and didnt explode so i was happy.
