so i think ima try to weld my exhaust myself. the pipe is bran new but its not quite long enough because i pulled it off my regular cab. and im just guessing here, but i think i need about a foot or two of pipe. ill make sure to measure and practice alil first. ive never welded b4. does anyone have any pointers. i cant afford to take it to bills to have them weld it.

Do you have any pics of what you are working with? It's hard for me to picture. You may be able to just buy an exhaust clamp and save yourself from welding.

This guy has some good videos to help you out.

i can have pix tomorow maybe. the first few hangers line up but because its from a reg. cab, its a little short of the hangers behind the ex cab and the arch doesnt quite reach the rear axel. the tailpipe is about a foot and a half maybe two feet short of the rear of the ex cab truck. if i cut it, and use the amount of pipe needed to extend to the proper length, would an exhaust clamp hold the pipes together with no flanges and be airtight?

If your not confident welding a new section in, get a bunch of spare/scrap exhaust pipe and practice on that till your comfortable, exhaust tube is pretty easy to blow holes in and the like if your not careful. Especially used exhaust tube.
Otherwise, like baha said, you can use pipe and clamps. That said, because your trying to extend it, I'd recommend using tube that will slide over the existing tube fairly snugly and cut 4-6 one inch long slits running longways in each end of the tube where its to overlap, so the clamp can crush it down onto the smaller tube, also use mani seal, or some other high temp sealant on your joints prior to assembly. Should work pretty well if done right.

does anyone know what sticks to use to weld hangers to an exhaust. i used a wire feed to weld the pipe together. but that wasnt my welder. i read u should use 1/16 and ive heard a 3/32 will work to. also read that a stick welder is a bit powerfull and is less recomended for pipe welding so i need to no the safest stick to use. also read 45 amps AC and 60 amps DC with straight polarity. would anyone say otherwise?
