I have been trying to pass smog. Damn California.
I rechecked the valve adjustment. The head on this one has adjustable valves.
The plugs, cap and rotor are new. I don't like the resistance reading of the coil so I have a replacement on order.
The timing I have adjusted again when I changed the rotor. The smog tech read it one more degree than what I read. He said they allow +/-3.
I found a clogged vacuum line at the intake manifold. Replaced that.
Found the EGR valve to be clogged. Cleaned it out. It now moves during a bench test. The intake manifold was really dirty at the EGR as well.
I have a replacement cat for the secondary unit. Have to install it. I cannot locate a primary one to purchase
in Ca. The unit that connects to the exhaust manifold. I'm sure I could get one from the dealer. But that idea sounds expensive.
The turn signals stopped working. Removing and cleaning the switch corrected the issue.
The alternator died. My bandaid of spraying it with wd40 and electric parts cleaner finally failed.

Hoping to getting this thing passing smog so I can move into updates that are more interesting.

I didn't see any on there. I would be interested in one. Not 100% sure I need to replace the primary. But the way it's going I'm on the path of replacing everything.

I took my intake manifold to the machine shop and had it cleaned. Made a difference. I replaced the EGR valve and several vacuum lines that were starting to get stiff and brittle. Other lines I trimmed the ends off and checked for blockage.

The truck acceleration is stronger than before so I'm making progress. When it's not warmed up there is a slight erratic idle. The rpm go up and down between 850-900 rpm.

I got it from CalConverter but that was back in 2011... doesn't look like they are active on ebay anymore.

and Plumas Lake is north of Sac... by Yuba City

Yeah I was checking that eBay spot. Thanks for the info. I know where plumas lake is. This truck came from Oroville. I'm over in the placerville area. I also have to travel all over the state for my job.

I should have taken some before pics of the intake manifold to show the comparison. Nothing fancy just cleaned. Truck runs a lot better with a clean intake manifold.

I had the machine shop take it through the parts washer then hot tank. They ran the parts washer hose through the EGR valve passage, that was the port that was gunky.

Looks good

I was not able to get my intake manifold that clean.

Thanks guys. It was worth the $25 I paid the machine shop. I tried scrubbing with brake cleaner and engine degreaser. Also was using a bottle brush. Then not getting anywhere I said F this and took it in.

I cut my exhaust today at the rear cat. I have a new cat to put on. Without it I fired the truck up and my slight miss appears to be gone. Hopefully it stays gone with the new cat. I may change the muffler as well.
