So I guess I'll start a project thread.... I got this truck in 09 for $300 the guy who had it replaced the motor with a rebuilt and never added oil and ran it until it blew up. I parked it for awhile at my mom's house I didn't have time to mess with it. I sold the head and rear bumper. I picked up an Engine off Craigslist for $300 about 6 months after picking up the truck. The engine and truck sat until about may of last year. Sometimes things get in the way of hobbies. This is my second mazda. I had an 87 single cab back when I was in high school. It was lowered on pathfinder wheels. i shaved it and painted it yellow. it was fun. I got into honda's and sold it. Wanted another mini ever sense.
here is the day i picked it up back in 09.
Damage to Engine block from previous owner. Oil in your engine will prevent this!
I shouldn't have left it under this tree.
Last year, I got it home. Pulled it off the trailer into the garage with a hand crank winch i bolted to the floor. I pulled the damaged block out and through the engine I picked up from craigslist in.
It fired up and ran! not bad after sitting for so long. I drove it up and down the street and was getting ready to smog it. Then it started smoking........
it would smoke on start up and clear as it warmed up. This got worse and worse, so I had to look into the issue. I though Head Gasket went. I started to pull the head and when i removed the exhaust manifold i saw oil drip down from the exhaust port. then with the head off there was oil puddles on the pistons.
I took the head in to the machine shop to be rebuilt. Then I pulled the block and took it apart. I took the block to the machine shop and had them Hot tank, test/measure and hone. I had them order all the parts for the rebuild.
This is where things got interesting with this engine. The stamp on the block is 2.0 the crank is 2.0 the head has mechanical rockers like a 2.0. The oil pump is a 2.2 part. The water pump is a 2.2 part. The timing belt is a 108 tooth belt which doesn't match a 2.2 or 2.0. when putting the engine back together i turned it over by hand 20 times and the timing marks all stay together. I tried to find what vehicle this engine came from and I could not pinpoint anything, i asked on here but didn't get any response. I believe its from Japan. The guy i picked it up from gave me a japan motors receipt. The block looks just like a 2.2 except the shorter deck height.
Now for the rebuild.
I got a reground crank. New bearings and rings, new oil pump, water pump, timing belt idlers and belt.
when setting the timing I added a white mark on the crank pulley. I didn't cover the yellow. its easier to spot
It's running great!!!!! The back end was too high, time for a 3 inch block.
I haven't adjusted the front yet. Going to smog it first then adjust the static height again.
Plans are to Bag and Body drop. But it will be awhile before it get those parts. I have to stop spending money for a bit.
