OK, I gave too many hints. I installed a new cassette stereo today.
Before, with the JVC cassette stereo I installed in 1994 after buying the '88 Cab Plus. It had developed an Intermittent about 1.25 years ago where I'd get only silence about 0.1% of the time.
Here's the unit. Sanyo, does cassettes and CDs.
First, the hump console had to come out, then the stereo console.
Here's the old faceplate, for a 2-shaft stereo.
I even went to an auto stereo store, they didn't have an adapter to fit in the bottom if I used the DIN bracket on top, they said they'd have to cut. I really didn't believe them, as my 1994 install kit was for 2-shaft stereos, and most stereos now are DIN. Anyway, rather than order something off the Internet, I decided to cut off the top (hidden) part of the original pocket that was underneath the original Clarion AM-FM radio (no cassette). So it took a lot longer than I had hoped for.
Installed in the faceplate, with cut-off pocket now underneath.
Installed.
With the front down to load a cassette or CD.
I doubt that I'll buy an Internet kit, no need to, really. Yeah, that pocket is pretty useless, but so would be a block-off plate.
Earl - note the 3-spoke metal steering wheel, hump console (both from my "former" parts yard), and 5-speed transmission to go along with that new cassette-CD player. Now I have to figure out better how to make CDs.
Oh yeah: here's the front doors I painted yesterday.
