No, no rear speakers at all (Cab Plus SE model). The rear panels are just way too tough to remove, and I only have two ears, which face forward.

Mine didn't have any rear speakers either and it was the SE-5 model Cab Plus. Hey drive over to my place and I'll take it off for you. But if I break a few retaining panel clips don't hit my head with the panel!! I taken my panels off more than a few times to change the speakers and install some cheap carpet. Yes I broke a few clips myself!!

You're scaring me, I'm trying to imagine your two ears facing forward

OK, I gave too many hints. I installed a new cassette stereo today.
Before, with the JVC cassette stereo I installed in 1994 after buying the '88 Cab Plus. It had developed an Intermittent about 1.25 years ago where I'd get only silence about 0.1% of the time.

Here's the unit. Sanyo, does cassettes and CDs.

First, the hump console had to come out, then the stereo console.

Here's the old faceplate, for a 2-shaft stereo.

I even went to an auto stereo store, they didn't have an adapter to fit in the bottom if I used the DIN bracket on top, they said they'd have to cut. I really didn't believe them, as my 1994 install kit was for 2-shaft stereos, and most stereos now are DIN. Anyway, rather than order something off the Internet, I decided to cut off the top (hidden) part of the original pocket that was underneath the original Clarion AM-FM radio (no cassette). So it took a lot longer than I had hoped for.

Installed in the faceplate, with cut-off pocket now underneath.

Installed.

With the front down to load a cassette or CD.

I doubt that I'll buy an Internet kit, no need to, really. Yeah, that pocket is pretty useless, but so would be a block-off plate.

Earl - note the 3-spoke metal steering wheel, hump console (both from my "former" parts yard), and 5-speed transmission to go along with that new cassette-CD player. Now I have to figure out better how to make CDs.

Oh yeah: here's the front doors I painted yesterday.

You spelled "cassette deck" wrong!

... And the doors look amazing!

Holy CRAP!! I never thought I would see the day! I guess I can throw away my Sony CD Walkman now........I was saving it so when I came to visit you and take your truck out for a spin, we could listen to a Ennio Morricone CD in your truck........

I'm still waiting for them to perfect the Walkman.

Remember - this unit plays BOTH CDs and cassettes. Or will, once I figure it out. Apparently right now the "detachable face" seems to only go on when the tray is down (like when loading or unloading a CD or cassette).

So - real question - POLL - how often do you people with detachable face units actually remove that detachable face and secure it or hide it so someone doesn't break in ? Or is that a feature that most people just ignore because of the hassle factor ?

Everytime I leave the cab for an extended length of time. Out of sight out of mind. Dan

Here's the page from the manual about the front panel facepalte installation. I'm finding that mine only clicks in when I install it while the "door" is down (this is a specialty player). I called Sanyo telephone help and they were worthless, figured I was just an idiot.

Any hints? Note that the instructions specifically forbid doing what I'm now doing by installing this while the door down, but I do support the assembly while I do this. Maybe I can try to put into position with the door down, then raise that up and then try to click in....

Looks like most of the other detachable's that I've had......so I would do as the instructions say. Although none of mine flip down either.
