I just went down at lunch time, took another look. I actually think that the panel might be hitting some trim or something off by 0.1mm, so think I'll just continue my way to install it. Mine won't install how the instructions stated, except it DID when on my workbench before installation in the B2200 console.

Likely I'll only lock the faceplate in the cross-bed toolbox when I'm parked in an unsavory area for a while (like at the Steelers bar !!!).

Just flip the face down and leave a tape sticking out.
That'll guaranty it will NEVER be stolen!

a crackhead would steal it....believe me, I've had mine stolen before.
the plastic console cost more to replace then the player was worth.

They are always a pain in the ass to clip back on. I've have the flip down kind and I remember putting in on like you are doing (in the flipped-down position) because I could never get the hang of attaching it vertically. It seems like there is always one person in the crew with the magic touch for getting the faceplate back on and everyone else just mashes it on until it sticks...

This may be a stupid question but do you have to take the dash off to get at the ashtray light? I took the ash tray out and felt around up there and didn't feel anything although I did neatly slice my finger open on some sharp little piece of metal.

I'll let someone else comment on your question about how to access that light near the ash tray.

I decided not to add a light there, don't think I'd need it, as I have a working mirror light and a Cab Plus 2nd dome light that works as well. Plus, I've got a little Mag Light flashlight in the hump console storage.

@ Lydia, Axel showed some pics of the dismantled dash on this thread. He probably has a write up on how to remove it.

Here is what I remember:
I think you need to remove the instrument cluster cover panel to access the screws of the cigarette lighter/air vent face cover and a hidden screw near the air con on/off button. The slider selectors are the pull out type. The fan and temperature selector switches are also pull outs. Behind them are the (12mm?) nuts that also hold the face cover. The face cover also has retainer clips that hold the cover in place. If you plan to pry it off you'll see the wire harness attached at the rear of the cover. Hope this helps...

Hey Cusser you have a bad-ass player there. I never seen one with the drop down face plate that hides the CD and Cassette slots, really cool!!

Not stupid at all! I think you can wire this up without removing the dash......I had my dash out so I did it then.
You can actually wire up 2 of those small light sockets and use one for the ash tray light and the other to light up the orange ring around the cig. lighter........for some reason I plugged mine into that cig. lighter area, instead of the ash tray light receptacle.
I think if you remove the large middle black plastic portion of the dash, you can retrieve the harness you need to tap into for these add on's.......and yes, the metal brackets that are screwed to the backside of the main plastic dash will cut you up if your not careful, so be careful!
