Well, since I just bobbed in on the last page, I can tell you I prep single stage with 400-500 grit, dry......However for base clear, in a metallic I will finish with 600-800 wet. Any rougher and your going to need to apply more coats of paint to cover your scratches, and that will cause your shine to die off because your chances of trapping solvents is much higher.

In my opinion wetsanding your primer gives better hold out, and a nicer shine, and its much cleaner, because you dont cause nearly as much dust. I also prefer it because its less costly on materials, when dry sanding you will tend to use much more sandpaper because it will get clogged. But with your wetsand paper you can just rinse it clean. It will loose its cutting power over time, but the paper does seem to last longer.

There is nothing wrong with dry sanding, Lots of production shops do it because it saves time on drying the water off, so it speeds up turn around times.

ok no problem. lol One of the reasons i picked this bodyshop to do the work on my truck was i had been following the work they've done for a bout a year. And everything they did to other customers rides when i researched it ,i was told was the PROPER way to do a good job so it last and looks mint.
