Well the high idle could be the choke linkage being out of adjustment. These trucks have a water choke so it will turn on until the coolant gets to a certain temperature, and then slowly back up. Yours might be opening it too far.

As for the shit idle, I had this problem and racked my brain and many others for almost 2 months. The problem ended up being simple.

Theres a plug in the back of the carb, the name of it escapes me right now, but its not important. This plug needs to be wired correctly, or your truck will idle like shit, and die if you let the idle get down too low. Theres also a rod behind it, and if this is missing it won't do its job even if its wired correctly. Check that. One wire needs to be wired to an ignition hot, the other needs to be grounded.

Also check for any vacuum leaks. Cracked vacuum lines, an unplugged port. A vacuum leak will also make it run like ass, and idle choppy.

OK, I'll check. But I didnt know what to do with those the extra tubes coming off of the carb that werent on the old one, so I just capped them.

capping them is probably the best thing to do.

have you gotten a book for the truck yet? the haynes manuals arent the best ones in the world but i know the one i have for my 88 has all the different vaccum diagrams for the different years and for the california models. scope that out and see if you can trace where those other three hoses went.

The Haynes aren't bad for the price. Chiltons are great, but run about 3 times the price of Haynes.

OOO, good idea. I shall find one.

I found a chiltons one for 70-88 pickup, 4-runner, and land cruiser. Are there any that are specific to 82 pickup?
twisted minis   +1y
Yes. I have one thats specifically for 79-83 2WD, 4WD, and Canadian models.

Thanks!

Seth, do you have an adapter for your APC wheel? What did you pay? Where did you buy?

Summit. I think it was like $15.
