i would argue that, that is ont what happened to them. .25 ft^3 didnt blow them, he probably cranked the gains or something else than the box being to small. all a smaller box does is kill the sensitivity of the sub. more power to get as loud as a larger box. most of the time u cant tell much of a difference in .25^3 anyways. but never the less the box size IS important! if those blow i would look into something completely opposite them.

hey matt here are some tips for next time.....

Use mdf not plywood becaluse the glue in plywood will delaminate due to the changes in temp and humidity in cars.

you also need to add some fiberglass mat to the fabric your using to add shape to the front. The fleece material alone isn't strong enough and will probably crack because of the box flexing

mdf is also more dense and produces less resonance then plywood.

other then that it looks good,

the matt may not be needed because of the boxbeing built without the glass playing part in structure, but im not promising anything, u may be 100% right and i may as well, its all dependant ya know. but i deffinately would have sealed those rings with silicone to do away with leaks, as well as any other corner. ply wood does resonate more tha MDF but it ALSO leaks more than MDF. MDF is not close to as porous as ply wood. and like he said the glue "dies" and that causes leaks as well as breaking. im not bashin at all as a matter of fact the quality of the building looks far away from bad, just use MDF next time.

mat is always needed because the resin alone is no where close to being strong enough, it just takes a slight bump to cave it in and destroy it. i would use like 2 layers of mat and then take the extra resin and pour it inside the box to seal up any holes.

I have to agree. You can make a box a little bigger or a little smaller than the recomended specs and not ahve any probs other than the tone and sensitivity. If a sub blows its more than likely being pushed to hard or even underpowered. You can blow one easier with too little power than you can with to much if your not careful.

Why fiber glass the box if your just going to cover it with carpet?

By the way matt. I think the box looks damn good. Very clean. Especially for a first attempt.
