Radiator fitment

whats the petcock??

well i dont know if its an actual pet cock but its the thing at the bottom of the radiator on that allows you to drain the fluid. its a lot smaller than the fill so it doesnt come out exremely fast. also, you can kinda screw it in to adjust the flow speed of the fluid coming out to an extent. its similar to the drain plug on your oil pan. only it comes out a little faster.

i know what ur talking about. so what i need to do is to have everything reassembled like im about to pour antifreeze back in, take out the plug, crank the truck and run water til it comes out clean??

yeah thats what i would do if it is 'that' bad. call and ask a radiator shop to see what they do. if it were me doing it i would use distilled water btw. it doesnt have the minerals that reg. water has. when you fill it back up use distilled water. reg. water is what corrodes and clogs up the water jackets because of the minerals it contains.

just keep it so as the water is flowing out, its flowing in at the same rate so you dont risk blowing it up or overheating it....you probably dont need to flush your block usually just draining your radiator is sufficient. actually, you could drain it fill it up with water, run it, drain it again, fill it up, run it, drain it again. fill it back up with antifreeze. that would be the best option and you wouldnt risk blowing it up or overheating it.

petcock is the correct term. bout time for vegas to say something...

thanks man uve helped out alot, ill take all options into consideration, but i want to have a fresh start w/ the coolant system..hopefully in another month or so i can have the money to do the timing chain and HEAD GASKET..before it blows

ya im kinda in the same boat but i have no radi mine was so @#$#ed up i tossed it so i need a good one what a good one for a good price

ebay it...i found some for a good price, but i was able to solder the neck on mine and let it ride at that for the moment
