Its funny to me how it has to be a race issue. This Bush bashing is out of control. I agree they had a slow response, but first off, the people had ample opportunity to leave, its not like the hurricane just popped up. They had several days notice to leave. Why did they stay? Secondly, NO ONE expected the catastrophic events that occured. Remember the majority of damage in NO was due to the massive flooding that happened AFTER the hurricane came through. I dont see it as a race issue whatsoever, it just happens that the mjority of population in NO is african american. On top of all this, if they are so concered with the quality of help they are getting there, then why shoot at choppers, why loot electronic stores, why roam the street shooting, raping and pilaging? Sounds like they are looking for a scapegoat, and Bush has a target on his back. Im not going to get into a huge political discussion about all of this, but first off its only been 6 days since the hurricane came through, the majority of damgage sustained there was from the flooding not the initial impact of the hurricane. Im not saying people werent killed when it came through, or that the city wasnt in ruins, but come on. The majority of the people down their complaining about the help they are recieving are the same people who are looting unnecessary shit. I see nothing wrong with taking food, water, diapers, ect, but tvs, multiple pairs of shoes, guns, ect, i cant understand. I watch these brazen fools stealing tvs right infront of police in the early part of the week, if your healthy enought to wander the street raining chaos, then they are obviously healthy enough to help get people out of areas where there situation is dire. Im an by no means racist, but when the majority of these people are already being provided for by our tax dollars because they are to stupid, or lazy to work, then my opinion is they have no right to bitch. (that last statement is backed up by the reports that the majority of folks still in N.O. are below the poverty line, therefore most likely unemployed and/or drawing wellfare) Enough is enough, the issue isnt timing, the issue is what can be done to help, myself, i feel sorry for everyone who lost a loved one, lost their homes and possessions, but if they all want someone to blame, blame each other for not leaving when the opportunity was there. The elderly, and children didnt have much of a choice, but everyone else did. Hell, if they didnt have cars, they had legs, or wheelchairs. They could have surley walked to TRY and get to a safe spot.
