yea i think I need to move back east when i got out of college i got a job at a local toyota dealership i started at 6.75 they paid the washboys $7.00 and I do have a lot of Icar stuff and I was doing a lot of bodywork to a year and a half later I am at $8.00 I go to take a better job so they give me $10.00 and move me up to a painter so I would stay then it gets slow they dont have a engouh work for three painters and they said $10 a hour is to much for a preper so I get laid off dealers are all about money they dont care about the employees but they get the most work at least around here

i made just over 18 hourly with the holiday/vacation figured in, but it was industrial painting and sometimes using automotive paint. also a perfect job was expected with poor equipment and poor conditions. the work was decreasing so they took away benefits so i quit.

Sorry this is a bit off topic but... what exactly do painter's helpers do? What kind of experience do you need to get a job as a painters helper? Would it be a good job for a student attending college full time to be a painter's helper?

i agree the best way to make money in body work is on commission, the last shop i worked for i was makin 20 an hour and i was a combo tech and i stopped painting due to i was gettin sick of the posion
i made 13 an hour almost 10 yrs ago...lol.. i would talk to you shop manager or the owner but look for a new job before you quit
