Fact is, shops don't get paid enough for good work in this sport. I don't care who rebuts this statement. I was in it for years and had plenty of fixtures, jigs, surface tables, etc., so I could build rides with fabrication precision and quality most of you guys expect. But, most people don't pay enough for what it takes. Almost all shops in this minitruck industry make less than comparative racecar, street rod and restoration shops. That is probably why you see so much shit piling up at kustomwerks. They are tired of putting in a shitload of hours year after year to not get paid enough. Its just an idea, but I'll bet I hit it on the head.
To all you big shops out there who do great work, I say jump ship and make some good loot in other fab markets.
Nate you are %100 correct. It happened to me aswell. I will say also that minitruckers really are impatient, generally speaking. I have had people act like these guys are after only 6 months of building their trucks and they were in full contact with me every single day. I tell new guys not to have big dreams building stuff only for the truck scene cause it is way too young and there simply isnt enough money in it. If you stay determined and get good, you basically price yourself right out of the budget of the majority of your customers. So those guys get burned out and the next group of fabricators comes in, wash rinse and repeat. Its stupid and i hated it, which is why i no longer do it full time. I got a normal job and am about to finally start building stuff again, mainly my own truck finally but i will do work for people at my price which will reflect on the quality of work i do. Sucks i have had to go through a mountain of bullshit and sacriface to only get this damn far...grrr but i love building shit so ill be back soon...
