@ sema i spoke with lance at viair i asked him about similar problems he said to make sure the check valves are verticla if they are horizontal they will collect moisture and destroy the check valve (have been dealing with him for a while and no problems with him at all just great service)

man I think you and lance got it backwards. The Check valves should be HORIZONTAL because if its vertical, the moister would just sit on top of the check valve, eventually corroding it and ruining the seal on it. I've had mine horizontal for 2 1/2 years on a 380 and no problems, but when I put on vertical, it blew. Think about it, it makes more since to put the check valve horizontal, how would moister be able to sit on the valve sideways it cant

if it sits horizontally the moisture wont drain when the valve is open it will just sit there... remember this is info coming from someone very familiar with viaairs and their inner workings (lance)

water trap between head and check solves this issue.. also voids warrenty though too i guess.

i got 2 380 leader hose that are broke off at the head right were it crimps and i talked to lance about them maybe twice then he ignored me so i had a 480 leader hose and another 380 and im using them since he at first wanted to help then unno what happen

y not put a check valve at the end of the leader hose, wont void the warranty....

so i guess i want to know this. What should i do when i get my new leader hose back from viair? Should i add a check valve coming from the tank to the compressor? How come no one installs the check valve onto the tank? Will it cause problems? Is more then one check valve a bad thing? I am asking these questions because i dont know. But i am wondering can i install a check valve and keep the one that is in the leader hose as well?

I'm wondering why the checkvalve that comes on the compressor is shit and why putting a secondary valve on is something left for us to learn the hard way.

i plan on installing a seperate check valve for reassurance. so, i will have the leader hose with the check valve already on it connected to another check valve then connected to the tank. this will not cause a problem as long as you install the check valve in the correct direction (they can be installed backwards causing bad things to happen to the wallet).

I guess tough shit for the guys who relied solely on the Viair check valve and now have roasted compressors because of it...

yeah bro, from what i have read, it sounds like it. i guess you haven't heard anything else from Lance?

Joel, other than continuous heat exposure, I do not know why you have had so many hoses go out on you.

The change you posted about in your photos does not change the operation of the hose at all. I said that there were no changes because any changes that may have been made did not warrant a part number change. The smaller hex section of the leader hose is so end users don't turn that portion of the fitting. I've pushed for a smooth section in this area, but it makes assembly difficult, or so I've been told. Most leader hoses that fail, do so because the installer is wrenching on the wrong part of the fitting, and they end up damaging the swivel. When this happens - some have experienced the hose separating.

I've seen people also pick up compressors by their leader hoses and carry them around when they're getting read to install them. This can also damage stainless steel braided hose as well as stress fittings. I haven't heard of anyone having continual problems with their leader hoses like you have. Your post wasn't meant to bash, but that's exactly what it turned into with a quickness. If you need help, email or call me.

Since you're not using VIAIR compressors, and you're using another pump, I have no idea what your compressor might be doing. Its heat output must be damaging the check valve, and that's why I sold you hoses saying that they would not be warranted for use with some other MFG's pumps.

Sounds like Viair Customer Relations needs this post fwd their way... yea, and Lance sounds like a dick!

Yup, I must be! I dedicated 10 years of my life to running MT and spend a hours every day trying to help people who have issues with their VIAIRs online... not to mention that VIAIR supports this forum as a paid advertiser...

I'm willing to help, and I'm not trying to screw anyone over. I make nothing more on my paycheck from getting on forums and trying to help people.

Have a nice day... I got back from SEMA yesterday and someone called me on the phone about this thread - that has apparently turned into more bashing than helpful...
