ok. The diaphragm is in the fuel pump, not the carb. Leave it to the Japanese to over complicate a mechanical fuel pump.

There is technically a "diaphram" in the carburetor too, according to the manual, but it doesn't work like any diaphragm I have seen before on other carbs. On this one, its to the side of the accelerator pump. Not sure what the purpose is, but its replaceable.

So, based on that, would you agree its a fuel pump issue? I want to try to replace it today if its the likely culprit.

Like I said this aint like no fuel pump I've seen. But I don't work on much import stuff and it does sound like the inner regulator isn't working correctly. So ya I would throw a new one on it.

Okay thanks. I have a new one on its way for delivery, as well as a new diaphragm for the carb. It was only $2 so no big deal if it wasn't bad. I'll replace them both and hope for the best.

well seth, as you know i am a junky for these model trucks! im not a fab guru like you but i am ase certified. (thats not saying much though lol.) anyway bro, that diaphram is basically paper junk. they go bad quite a bit. (just in case: its on the side and part of the carb. four tiny screws hold it in.) also, manual fuel pumps can be a bitch on these as well. the little arm wears out on them and they dont put out as much pressure. id replace both like you and everyone on this post has agreed! these are known for junk carbs- specifically those little bullshit diaphrams) the engines are the shit though... i put a dual side draft weber on my old yota and it wasnt much better! the electric pump is cool - i had one on my 4x4 83 but it still ended up with fukt diaphrams...

good luck. email me if you need anything partic

Okay fuck. I just replaced the diaphragm even though the one in the carb was perfectly fine, and I replaced the fuel pump. I turned it over, and it started to fire then died down. Tried again and it did the same thing. Third time it gets no fuel and just cranks over and over and over constantly. What else could go wrong?

dude.... im clueless at this point.

I really don't know what to do. I pulled the top off the carb again, the bowl is still dry except for the 1/8" or so of fuel in the bottom valley.

truck running + pooring rain = truck not running. Pump some of that gas into glass jar. I bet you have some water in the tank. Shit happened to once.
