Seth I felt that same way after my truck broke on me coming back from a show. If you can drive it around locally for awhile & if anything else is going to happen it should then...if not you should be good to go! Be safe bro.

Well, the fuel delivery issue is fixed. I took it for a real drive yesterday, ran great at first, then got off the freeway and it died and would not restart. So I was left stuck on a freeway offramp that goes uphill. No chance of push starting. After about 30 minutes of sitting I was able to get it started again, but it would not stay running under 2K RPM, and ran very rough. I limped it to the parts store and let it sit for a while. It started up and ran fine after sitting for an hour, but by the time I got to the freeway it was running like ass again and I had to keep the RPM up at the light. Then got stuck in traffic half way home.

So once home I pulled the tank, and drained it completely. Found about another 1/2 gallon of nonflammable gas.

So I just got the tank back in and filled it with 3 fresh gallons. It now starts great and runs well for about 10 seconds, then is right back to being rough. And its spitting black shit out of the tailpipe. Not black smoke, literally shit. Nasty black watery stuff on the ground beneath it. It will stay running now, but idles at about 500 RPM (normally 900 for me) and its very rough like it has a miss fire. If I rev it up to 2K it smooths out. If I rev it and let it drop fast it makes a loud sharp backfire?

Possibly the last bit of the bad gas fowled the plugs again? Or should I be looking deeper? Like a hole in a piston or something from detonation with the first bit of shit gas?

Regardless, I am looking for an EFI donor truck now. But I need a fix now, school is tomorrow.

if u had a major internal issue it wouldnt run well at any rpm or maybe run at all i would be looking into ingition system again ,water does bad things and go buy a couple things of gas dryer like heat and put it in with good gas

Like fuel additives? I'm going to go pull the plugs and put in some NGKs again. It seemed to like those. I get great spark with a wire tester, but not as much with the Autolite plugs. It looks weaker. But I have MSD and it creates a huge spark on the tester.

i would change plugs again as water can really destroy plugs. also what does the black stuff coming out of the pipe smell like? it sounds like you have fowled the plugs again to me.

The black stuff doesn't have much of a smell. Kind of a dull soot smell I guess. Doesn't smell like gas. But pasty and almost sticky.

Funny thing, is a few people around here are having issues with Chevron gas. My friends truck just started doing the same thing, another friends car started pinging last week, and my grandmas new Cadillac picked up a ping as well. All of us only buy Chevron. I don't know how likely it is for them to actually have bad gas though...

I'm heading out now to change the plugs again.

the black shit is probably just the carbon from the exhaust. getting washed out from the water in the fuel.

do you always get the gas from the same place? maybe you should completly dry your fuel cell, and run new clean gas thru the system.

I almost always go to the Chevron around the corner from my house. But the last place I got fuel was at the Chevron in central Santa Rosa, closer to the other people with issues.

I just finished drying out the tank completely, and putting it back in with fresh fuel from the Chevron I normally go to.

yes it does just sound like really bad gas. that does just sound like deposits coming out of the exhaust from the moisture coming out of the cylinders since it is not burning. as for chevron or whom ever it doesnt really matter.

go to local autoparts store or even walmart and get some water remover in a bottle. it usually treats around 15 gallons. just dump a bottle in i dont care if it is all fresh gas. new plugs and you should be done.

Okay I pulled the plugs that are in it. They are wet and smell like raw fuel. I also noticed that on plugs 2 and 3 there was a black soot like substance where the boot ends. The one that is darker is #2. Numbers 1 and 4 where clean there, but also wet and smelling of fuel.

So I put the NGK plugs in. It starts and runs better and smoother than before, but still has an apparent miss. So I didn't run it for more than about 15 seconds. I don't want to ruin another set of plugs. Possibly bad plug wires?
