go to local autoparts store or even walmart and get some water remover in a bottle. it usually treats around 15 gallons. just dump a bottle in i dont care if it is all fresh gas. new plugs and you should be done.

So put that stuff in even though I emptied the tank and put new gas in?

A buddy of mine got bad gas from Chevron here in AZ in his brand new ride and they paid for they whole system to get flushed. It happened to about 40 other cars who filled up around the time he did

I just looked it up in the local paper, and Friday there was an article about the station we all went to and it causing some pretty bad issues for people. The article makes it sound like they are shutting down though.

luckily we dont have many chevron stations here in middle tn - mostly shell! thats who i contract for. here in Tn they have to dig up and replace the tanks so often because of ground water getting down in the tanks causing this issue.

anyhoo, id put the h2o remover in the tank anyway. WYNNS makes some really good stuff. you can typically get it at a firestone store as its not an "off the shelf" product...

We don't have Firestone stores up here. We have Kragens, Vato Zone, and Napa. We do have a Goodyear tire station but those guys are idiots.

Okay I am stumped yet again. I replaced the plugs, it made a huge difference, but still runs like it has a miss. I replaced the wires, same deal. Put the Autolite plugs back in after cleaning them, and it gets worse again.

But the thing is, it runs perfect for about 10 seconds, no miss, smooth idle, then it starts running like crap and smells like gas.

hey seth this might sound like a stupid questions but reading the whole post on your fuel problem and carb issues. By chance have you checked the fuel filter before and after all of this changing stuff. I no expert on this but i had the same problem on my chevy changed the pump and still was dying, then tried the filter and the problem stopped. sry for the book rich

I haven't changed it, just checked it to make sure it was clean still.

Okay I now have a brand new cap and rotor, brand new plugs, brand new wires, and a brand new coil. The missfire is officially gone, but I am still having issues. I started the truck up, and it ran perfect. I kept it at about 2K RPM to warm it up a bit, then I started letting it down to idle. Once it got around 1500 RPM it started running rough, so I raised the idle from there and it still ran rough. Its rough around idle too, and is still emitting a black watery substance from the tail pipe. I pulled the air cleaner off, and there is a similar substance in the carb above the wing on the secondary. WTF is going on? If I let the truck sit for about 30 minutes it will do this same thing, but if I start it immediately after it runs rough right off the bat.

I also got the fuel dryer additive and put it in the tank.

if it was me i would be cussing right now.

i am very bad at diagnosising stuff without seeing and hearing it so here is my idea. drive to my house in NC and i will fix it.

if this doesnt seem to be an option here is something i remind people of all the time and it is how i fix most problems. simple back tracking. you need 3 things to make an engine run, fuel, air and spark. so you know you have good spark as you have tested it and you have replaced all bad pieces. so i would suggest on the air side check your air filter. on the fuel side i would say remove the old fuel filter no matter how clean it is and replace it. if it still runs rough i would disconnect the fuel tank connection at the fuel pump and try running the truck off of a gas can. i am not saying a fuel problem but maybe a fuel passage problem causing irregular fuel pressure. the other thing i am not sure of is are you sure you do not have a vacuum leak at that stupid smog pump maybe? just a thought as if it was a small leak it could cause irregular problems.

pick and choose which one of my ideas seem to fit your problems. or just ignore me. whichever
