By truck doesn't technically have a "smog pump". The manual calls it an air pump. And all it does is suck air out of the intake box, and push air back in. There is nothing else. It just has two 1.25" hose going in and out of the air pump and the intake box, nothing else hooked up to it.

Then I would definately check the cat, If there was moisture coming through from the bad gas it could clog it up quick.

And I had contemplated swapping to a Weber with no smog equipment, but I really don't want to spend $300 on something I won't use for long.

Don't blame you I won't buy one thats why I tried the Vw and Motorcraft carbs too cheap to spend 300 on a carb.

I really, really don't want to do this. Its a fully welded system, and would be a lot of work just to check it.

The truck runs fine, until I try to let it idle. Then it runs rough, but ti will smooth back out if I hold it at 2K RPM again.

could it be that the cat is plugged and your idle is getting the motor too much backpressure? The higher rpm could push through the gunk and shit more. I dont know I am just thinking.

I guess I could just unbolt the exhaust and run a straight header to test that...

sounds like that cat man. i know you dont want to hear that but thats all i can think of thats left... sounds like a back-pressure issue!

that would also explain your plugs gettin fouling up so much

Weak.

Weill I got the Mustang running, and I leave for class in an hour. So I will mess with my truck tomorrow afternoon when class is over and report back. If thats cat is fowled up, I'm putting a straight pipe in thee for now.
