I think it all depends on the situation....I know there's been several times I felt I did way more work that what I got paid for. Not because I miss qouted, but because it's hard for me to let the little things slip by unfixed. In situations were someone goes above and beyond what you paid them for, I don't see anything wrong with throwing them a little extra dough just to let them know you appreciate it. Specially if you got the dough. Trust me, the better customer you are, the better you get treated, atleast at my shop. I've had customers not want to pay extra for the part I had to buy unexpectedly, yet go out and spend cash likes it nothing on other shit, instead of taking care of me. No hard feelings on the deal, but I won't be taking such good care of them the next time they want me to hook them up. But then again, the average waiter probably makes more money that I do at my shop.

I havent ever paid anyone to work on my vehicles, but if/when i do - if they do a good job or are currently doing a good job i'd bring them some beers/pops & a pizza. That kinda stuff i think would build your "relationship" as to where tipping with money might give the guy a sense of, why didnt i charge him more?? =) This scene is cool enough that i'd hope people would appreicate lunch/beers more then a $20 tip

I can't believe some of you base your decision to tip on what someone's pay scale is or if they "turn wrenches" or not. ???

TIPPING IS allowed for anyone who does you an excellent job. It doesn't matter if they were charging for a $3000 paint job (which I got a tip for) or hanging drywall for $1500 which I gave a tip for, or cutting your hair for $15 which I tip for.

Show some class and GIVE A TIP to ANYONE who's gone above and beyond. Even if it's a gift of a 6-pack or something, acknowledging you appreciate their work is always going to come back to you.

i agree with most everyone, but i typically don't tip cash unless it's "keep the change" type of deal. usually for me its beer &/or pizza/lunch. if its a small job, baybe a 5 or something to get a couple tall cans for the ride home or something, but if there was a $3000 tv at best buy & i got it for $2000 at some local place...i'm walkin out the fkn door!

beer & pizza or coffee & doughnuts will definately make anyone happy & happy people do better work...

if your buddy is tipping 10% for paint work...send him my way

don't get me wrong, haircuts & stuff like that yes, now restraunts that's different cause i'm an a-hole...it goes off the service. you suck, your tip will show it...you're good, your tip will show that too...my beer EVER goes empty while i'm eating, your tip will be non-existant!

A TV is a product and you don't tip for purchasing a product. Tipping is for a service

^^i know i'm teasing, just someone implied if you're being saved money...but definately it goes off the quality of service^^

It is a bit unorthodox to tip a shop. It is kinda like tipping your mechanic. Also I hear so much shit about shops these days screwing people or doing sub standard work that is would suck to tip them and come to find out the work they did has to be redone.

The only shop I know that truly stands behind there work is Ekstensive Metalworks. You could be the third owner and they will still fix it.

I guess though if you are stopping in frequently to see the work and like it and they are making good progress buy them lunch or beers to show them appreciation also it may help grease the wheels a little

I think its personal preference if u want to do it if not dont. But i also dont think anyone should just expect it either, i have been tipped and i do tip at times but it really pisses me off when there is a tip jar in places
