When I say hard for people I was talking about expenses and time. There does need to be something but a huge pain in the ass won't solve anything. What needs to happen is the idiots pulling this crap need to wreck and only kill and hurt themselves. Darwinism at it's finest. If insurance companies wouldn't insure trailers or pulling them without proving you have adequat equipment to pull it that would take care of alot of the problem.

I also think these are alot of extreme examples. There are alot that are dangerous, but I bet for everyone of those there are 10 perfectly safe setups and drivers. People tend to notice the bad. I know that 1 guy could kill 10 others when he runs outa control, I'm just saying, taking away peoples rights that are doing things right to take care of the people doing things wrong. That is the idea behind gun control.

I agree with you. It shouldn't be extremely costly, nor time consuming, but I do think the test should include a written exam and a practical (driving) exam. Just like when you go in for your CDL.

Unfortunately, 90% of the time, these guys only injure others.

I think the insurance thing is great in theory, but I'm afraid it will only cause people to drive around with uninsured trailers.

Your right about the uninsured trailer. But could you imagine so poor bastard loosing his $10,000 trailer and $20,000 worth of crap in it and his $20,000 truck and the stuff he damages and having to pay for that out of his pocket.

Part of the problem is other drivers also. I don't know how many times I've been pulling something and someone up aways will decide since I'm pulling a trailer he needs to get out in front of me. My rigs have brakes and such and I watch for that. But I've come real close to assholing people many times, and if I wasn't set up right(like alot of people aren't) I never couldv'e gotten stopped. But was I being unsafe or careless? NO they were idiots.

That and our insurance rates would go up.....

An edorsment to pull a trailer would be nice, but like campy said about people driving around with uninsured trailers, some people would still haul trailers without their endorsement. In GA you now have to get your CDLs to pull a trailer over a certain length.

I don't agree with you on that one. There is no Amendment in the US Constitution that states you have a right to tow a trailer.

You could use that same argument by saying that not every truck driver needs a CDL. Some of them didn't need any training. However, the process is there to keep every Tom, Dick and Harry from climbing into the seat of a 34,000 lb rig and playing trucker.

As far as people with safe set-ups that know what they are doing, it should be a no-brainer. Like you said, make the cost minimal and do it as efficiently as possible.

I'm no Liberal, and I'm not saying I'm into big Government control, but I personally would not have a problem going through the process if it meant safer highways in general. Maybe that's just me.

You hit the nail right on the head. You were prepared, but how many other drivers are there that arent?

As far as other cars go, well, that will never change. People are just assholes. It's up to you to be the responsible one.

see i agree and when i am not trialering i respect truckers and guys trailering and crap because if i am trailering i want the respect given to me of not cutting off and giving them space and time to stop and get in lanes

yeah but not everyone out there on the road is that respectful....
