not to sound all sappy, but when i look at a photo, its all about my immediate reaction, how does it make me feel, does it tell a story. this is usually not the case with automotive pictures. with automotive pics its all about compostion, lighting and so on in my opinion, i dont ever see show coverage that really blows me away, but i dont think its supposed to. for instance, im really into the stuff that the Surface do photography wise. most of the time they dont even get the whole car, because its not necessary. The section of the front wheel tells you all about that car, it defines it. they do great work. And you can tell that all of them are into the same school of thought on that. I dont think everybody can take a good picture, sometimes i think people get lucky, ive seen trained photographers suck and ive seen ammatures be amazing. For example. A friend of mine Danielle is in her forties and she didnt know dick about cameras or anything, but her husband gave her a camera for her b'day and she just started taking pics immediately. let me show you some of her shots:        her self portraits    Shes actually a hair dresser for a living, and is self thaught with the camera, i was actually had just met her when she started taking photos. She recently started using photoshop as well, thats how she added her name lol

Got to agree with Ernie, not everyone can take good pics..there is some artistic talent to it...being able to look at an object, car, person or scene and be able to capture it in a way that conveys the emotions of the moment takes talent...some people can do it naturally some can learn how to do it others try but never get it..Surface does an awesome job at capturing the moment, i strive for my shots to come out like Wills and Nicks

---------------------------------------------Originally posted by BOOOGHARive been taking photos for 20 plus years (i guess that kinda shows my age) Ive never had the best equipment but always tried to do my best with what I got. I know I can take way better pics with better equipment and i love taken pics of whats going on around me when im out some where else. none of my pics are planned and i hate using a flash, i know its needed in alot of cases but i always try to use natural lighting        some of my favorite pics ive personally taken - the last 2 werent used with a flash, just usin what i got - i try and hope i can get me a better camera some day---------------------------------------------booghar,is that a nikon coolpix4300 that you are using? i bought one of them off ebay a while back for like$10..and i love it haha.

What makes a great shot? Boobs Oh sorry, thought this was the "porno"graphy  thread, not photography. You guys take some pretty sick pictures. I especially like the ones done by Surface.

im gonna agree that its just built into some people. going through school they teach you the basic elements of what makes a good photo but you can see the difference between those that can grasp the idea and put it to use and those who have no clue what the hell is going on.

on a side note though taking photos for fun or being in business for your self is awesome working for someone else definitely has its downfalls. case in point the other night im out with my boss at the hard rock casino taking photos of him hanging with a couple of friends and i come across a couple making out in the middle of the casino and after asking them if it was cool if i take pics i start snapping and i got some awesome shots. then my boss deletes all of them except for this over exposed shot with him in the foreground and the couple making out behind him.
