---------------------------------------------Originally posted by baggednblue Since we are on the topic of mags and new content.  I was wondering the other day reading MT that there is an increase in woman on the cover and in the mags.  Why is that?  Does it help numbers?  Is it really necessary?  Is that actually going to make someone buy the mag because there is some nasty skank on the cover.  And if there is why don't people just buy a porno mag.  Its sad that when you go to a show and the bikini contest winner gets 1500 and best of show gets a 2 dollar piece of metal.  Just sucks when my girls kids wants to look at the mag and my gf wont let them because of the content.  Sorry to hijack the thread and was just wondering what other peoples voice was on this?  --------------------------------------------- Ive never really had a taste for girls on the cover of auto mags, Lowrider has to be an exception for me, but I digress. At least its tasteful...not like what Tailgate used to show...talk about nasty and skanky! HA!

Coverage has always been the same. We all go to the same shows and we all take photos of the same trucks at those shows. Not much we can do about show coverage. Like I said before, our online show coverage shows more angles and behind-the-scenes stuff. It's the features that get tricky. I like to be upfront and honest with a truck owner and explain to him/her that if I shoot your truck, out of respect, we expect them not to let anyone else from any other mag shoot it until it comes out.Stuff happens, and it sucks, that's why you see same trucks in different mags withing a month or two. Usually, that means a truck owner wasn't being 100% honest.  If we don't get a tech sheet right away, that usually means the owner is being shady and trying to get into every mag on the planet. If the same truck comes out in another mag months down the line, than everything is all good. It is what it is. The truck owner has to choose what mag they want to be in. In regards to the chicks, I couldn't agree with you more Chris. That's a big reason why you won't see a bunch of chicks in Truckin' and even fewer (if any, really) on the cover. We've always been the family-friendly coffee table book. I'll be straight up with you, we've run plenty of bikini contest photos in the past, but it really doesn't sell anymore mags.  As far as the bikini contest winners taking home more $ than the "Best Of" owners, that's all on the show promoters. If I had to guess, they think if there are more hot chicks there, more guys will come, which means more trucks, etc.

Hi everyone, my name is John Mata, the newest member of the Truckin' family. Its great to see everyone's level headed responses today. I usually don't spend too much time on forums anymore because of the boneheads that tend to ruin the fun with hateful attitudes. You going to the Slamily Reunion show Adam? If so Ill see you there!

It's cool to see Dan, Mike and other editors on here takling about their magazines.  Just goes to show that they are every day people like all us.  I too have noticed the change since Dan took over.  My first cover was actually shot for Truckin Magazine back when Dan was an associate editor and i've made pretty good friends with Dan since then.  Thanks for the big break! I think there are big things to come for Truckin Magazine.  As for the boats, being a freelancer ive heard that for years, but like he said, things are changing!  Give it a chance.  And the ads are important.  With no ads, there is not magazine, which inturn means there is no photographers shooting the truck you've worked so hard on.  It's just like commercials on TV, they HAVE to be there, deal with it!!   I can't wait to see Truckin continue to grow!  Thanks for the numbers too.  Thats crazy to see how all the mags vary from department to department.

Hi  guys, I'm Brandan ,the Feature Editor of Truckin'. I've been working with Dan for almost 4 years now and I'm glad to see that Dan's moving the magazine in its current direction and happy to be a part of it. It's good to see that you guys are responsive and have both questions and criticism. JP, as to your question about consolidation, there's really not much we can tell you as editors. Not that because we can't spread it all around on forums like this, but because we don't know. What I do know is that the company wouldn't be publishing a magazine unless it's making money. Times are tough for magazines, that's no secret, but our truck group is holding its own and as long as we're in the black we'll be making magazines.

Dan, Mike....so if you're caught browsing SSM while you're on the clock is that considered slacking off or networking?

I honestly had not picked up a Truckin' in 4 or 5 years. There wasn't a point in it. I saw the issue with the two NBS chevys on the front, and thought that I would give it a try. The first thing that I noticed was that it was about the 4th the size that it used to be. Even with the smaller size, I was pleasantly surprised. Great turn around guys, keep it up!
