The point of the GCS wheel is to save 2 1/2" on the outside near the fender without milling the faces. Milling the faces 3/8" to 1/2" only saves 3/4" to 1" overall like Drag says. I'm assuming Drag and Lock are milling the faces of the rear dually wheels that touch (between tires) and not the opposite faces that face out and in. If they are milling the faces that touch, then 3/4" to 1" is specifically saved on the outside near the fender lip.
My machinist and I feel that milling the faces is not such a great idea because now you have decreased the thickness of the aluminum at a critical and load bearing area. Thinner = Weaker. The hub face is only 3/4" or so to begin with. However, I've seen it done and no one seems to have problems. I'm not saying it's wrong. It's just not my first choice.
I agree that you cannot run a GCS wheel with a 295 or 305 tire. We are really interested in just running the 275/45/22 Pirelli and only using a 3/8" or 1/2" spacer. A 1/4" spacer may even be sufficient.
The DOT is messed up. There are alot of 18-wheelers and drivers that have no business on the road, yet they are out there everyday. Instead , good looking-equipment and American drivers and Owner/Operators are pulled over or inspected at weigh stations for no reason at all.
