Well Linn, I got the replacement head gasket last in sooner than I thought (on the 5th), and I carried it to them the next morning, while I was there I was asked if I was ready for the engine, to which I emphatically
said yes.
I wouldn't say that we'll have a sound clip by christmas, but soon, I talked to the machine shop today & they have the head together, just a matter of time to get it bolted on and the last few checks. So tomorrow, I'm gonna go by there & get some good measurements for an engine shipping cradle, and will pickup some 1"x1" sq tubing & weld it up this weekend, I may have it back next week (fingers crossed), I also am supposed to get a "damage estimate" of how light my wallet is gonna be after I pick it up, (originally 3 years ago I was told that I bring them the engine & parts, and they could do the work & put it together for @ $2000-2500)...hopefully that is still the story so I'll have some money left over for finishing up the interior & maybe even a paint job....I also talked to the welder today, and I should have the 4" intake back the first of next week as well, so maybe just maybe by the first of the year we'll hear her roar! I'll be off this weekend, and then have to work Monday & Tuesday, but will have off till Jan 5 after that, so barring any unforseen honey-do's, I may have it running by the first of the year.
I need to order a couple of gauges (EGT & Air/Fuel) so I can tune those beasts of carbs, and my steering wheel & hub, but other than that I have most of the stuff for the interior to be functional (got a great deal on some Polk componet 5.25's from Crutchfield as my xmas present to me, and the wife got me a shifter knob & boot).
I am planning on replacing the gauge cluster with some of the same type autometers that I mentioned above, but I'll have to wait on some more fundage, getting the motor, intakes will have me about tapped for a minute or two.
Thanks for askin Linn, and I'll be sure to keep everyone posted and take plenty of pics!!
