I'm sorry if I kep trying to make this seem hard as you try to make it easy.

The cars you listed have a smaller engine with a different volumetric efficiency than the 2.2. The ECU would have a different fuel curve than what is needed. Some of the late model engines were 2.2, but they used the 12 valve head and the intake mounting pattern is different.

You will also need the distributor to make the most of your conversion, fuel injected engines have different timing curves than carbureted engines, so put that in your parts pile too.

It will "bolt up", but later models had the intake facing to the rear of the engine, sideways in the FWD cars, which would point at your firewall. You would need to cut the intake in half and flip the top half to the front and reweld. Only early (~86) 626 and 323 had intakes that went up over the valve cover. I am using a 323 2.0l intake currently, but I have switched the stock injectors to some 460cc models from a late model RX7, and modified the pulse width and idle charateristics to match my engine.

Give me a shout if you need any help on the project.

How did you get that for $25? Finding one alone is going to be tough.
I already called around 5 junkyards in the area and they don't have an FI B2200 not even B2600.
That is why I am thinking about just putting an external fuel pump from an older ranger.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I have a question for you Russ.

Hey Russ, would you happen to know if my original 89B2200 fuel tank will accept an FI in-tank pump?
Do you think the stock pick up tube with the fuel level sensor hole will accept an FI in-tank pump?

Thanks for the contribution to this site.

well, I think I mentioned that the 86-91 RX7 APPEARED to have the same fuel pump setup. I'll be pulling one Thursday but dont have a handy truck part to compare it to until I pull my bed again.

Yes, you can plop an EFI pump into a carb tank, but the carb tank does not have baffles to keep fuel around the pickup tube. I still have an extra EFI tank (no pump) for a std cab next to my house if anyone wants to clean it and use it, it has baffles.

Or you could find an 88 ext cab, most I am told came with a low pressure intank pump for the carb (they dont have a head mounted mech pump) and switch the pump with a high pressure carter pump. And the level sender will work as well.

OR you could just buy the Bosch I talked about, they sell on ebay all the time.

You could do as you say and add an intank pump after sectioning the pickup tube, but you'd want to be sure and support the pump with a long bracket.

I'll let everyone know if the RX7 pump fits the truck tank, it occurs to me just now that I could try ssticking it in the extra tank I have...

Hell I can throw a FI together! I will just use a few mismatched parts...

Intake from older engine so it goes over valve cover, use the 12 valve head, ECM, and wiring from an actully 2.2 engine of a later year and as long as there is senors it will all compensate for itself,

O2 sensors tell the ECM if the mixture is Lean or rich so it will fix all of that.
MAP sensors tell how much air is coming in and it will make all th right adjustments i think

Hell thanks everyone for your help, this sounds liek it will be pretty easy after all

yep, except:

The 12valve head wont accept the older intake

The 12 valve head has the distributor at the rear.

The O2 sensor is a narrow band which will not correct enrichment fast enough at WOT.

The O2 sensor is ignored in open loop running like warmup and cruise.

The flapper AFM tells the engine how much air is coming in, and must be matched to the ECU.

Everything else though will be golden sunshine. Thats the attitude to have though, just do it. Bench work is fun, but application is where its at.

If you don't mind, I'll get it if it's not too rusted inside. Empty fuel tank rusts when sitting for long periods of time. PM me on price including shipping.
Where are you located?

Isn't it that the system is in open loop if O2 is ignored? Esp during warm up and WOT. In WOT, it works on preset fuel maps within the ECU.
System is in closed loop if O2 sensor signal is in use.
Just to clarify.

Yes, I fixed that right after I posted. Sheesh! You would think with all the control systems classes I took I would remember the diference!

I am in Wichita KS, I'll check the tank tomorrow. It was a good tank, And I had a hood over it so rainwater wouldnt bother it, but that was last year.

Ok i will use the 8 valve heads, no biggy

Hey 89b2200. I just pulled a hood off a b2600i last week. If you need anything the truck is still at the yard as of today. Just let Mark and I know and we can cruise on over there.
