I feel pretty good about the welding part, been taking classes here at the local college. But still would like to read about it. Been working on front end, ready to put in bag breckets on one side. Plated hole in frame between upper and lower control arm and filled in above the lower control arm, the hole thats there when you cut straight down. Getting ready to take some pics and post them. Far as the metal fit, and suspension geometry, I would like to read up on that. What would be a good place to go to read up on that stuff?

thanks.

So here's some pics of the front.... how does it look so far? Going to try to get the brackets tacked in some time this week.

nice welds. but you may have to notch your upper bag plate to fit over the fill plate now.

Looks good, glad u decided to plate the frame, and make sure your gussets face downwards to help keep the frame strong...

Cool... thanks. But I have a small prbablem. Just got my front bag brackets and the plate that goes on lower control arm is 1/2" thick the welder i'm using only does 1/4" at the most, so i'm kind of stuck till I get a new welder, hopefully this weekend i'll be able to get one. Here's the plate.

So on this plate do I cut it down so the curve part is just behind the bracket for my lower ball joint? That what I've seen done in some of these forums. And as far as the round plate do I move it as close to my frame as I can as long as my bag doesn't rub on the frame? That's what looks like is done also.

Here's how i'm going to mount my upper plate.

It will be at a slight angle, and I should be able to run a bead between filler plate and bottom of bracket. I'll pbobably stack a couple of beads in there then weld to the upper control arm plate, or what ever that is sticking out. Still need to figure how much to cut down upper plate. Plate is pretty long right now.

throw that big ugly candy cane thing away and make your own outa 1/4 inch stuff i cant put it in words...someone post a pic of what im talking about

u don't need that big plate. just drill a nice mounting hole in your LCA and mount the lower bag plate to the arm. your upper mount will be determined by where your compressed airbag (bolted to your lower arm) now resides, at full suspension compression.
BTW your welds look better than i imagined. nice job.

Man... that saves me a lot of trouble. So once the lower bag is mounted push the bag down as far as I can with the upper plate on it and mark the frame for upper plate. Is that how You do a full compression? Think I'm going to do gussets up on the upper plate. Read a pretty long forum about that and up seemed better to me?

thanks

find specs for fully extended and collapsed measurements for what bags your using and you can make a template or spacer the same size (its usually easier than smashing the bag) and bolt it to the lower plate and upper plate too, then jack the whole a arm assembly(spindle included, all bolted together - basically do what i'm doing in the pic below) and that will show u where u need to weld the plate. u can use a paper template of the upper mount instead of the actual steel bracket and mark and cut it so it lines up with the frame at the same time the ball joints max out. then transfer the paper to the metal, you get the picture.... do the same for your gussets after the upper plate is cut to the right size...
it doesnn't matter if the gussets are going up or down. as long as they are protruding at LEAST half way across the bag diameter... here's mine:

Thanks a bunch!! I was going to throw tire on, lay it out and do it that way but the way you said seems much easier. I'll have some pics soon.
