After you have the head installed, with the spark plugs removed, turn the engine over by hand with a 21mm socket and a ratchet for several revolutions. If you can do this without anything binding, your good to go.......if you feel something hitting or binding, stop turning it, and recheck the timing chain setup.
NOW......once you have turned the engine over and past top dead center (TDC) as you had it set when you installed the timing chain, the colored links in the chain WILL NOT line back up as they were when you set it up initially........BUT, it is still in time! There are unequal lengths of chain on each side of the timing gears and therefore the motor would have to be rotated a number of times (over 50!) before the colored links would match back up to their initial setting. BUT, the timing marks on the timing gears should always stay where they are supposed to be, every 2 revolutions of the CRANKSHAFT. In other words, when the engine is set at TDC, and you hand crank it 2 full revolutions, the crank keyway should be at 12:00 o'clock and the camshaft timing gear's timing mark should be at 3:00 o'clock.
When the crank key is at 12:00 o'clock, the crank's balance shaft sprocket has a mark on it that should be at 12:00 o'clock also.

So, don't be confused, and think you've done something wrong, if the colored links on the timing chain don't "go back" to where they were after you hand turn the engine for the first time after setting the timing & balance shaft chains up! Just make sure your not getting any binding or hitting as you hand spin the engine.....slowly.

I took my head off today. Here are a couple pics showing My B2600i and how it's not the same as all the others I see.

Nope, the 2600i is a 12 valve head.
Makes better power than the 8 valve 2000 or 2200.

Nope what? My pictures above are of a B2600i and it is 12 valves.

You said it's not the same as all the others you've seen.
All the 2600i heads look just like yours... I just figured you were saying it didn't look like the other engines that were in the b-series trucks, which is why I specified 2000 and 2200.

SinCity look at the combustion chamber. It is not the same as the one pictured on page 4 of this thread nor of any b2600i heads that I have looked at. mine has a perfect ring around the combustion chamber with a recess while the other heads are flat, no recess and no ring around the chamber. That's not carbon build up you see, it's a recess with some carbon in it.

Compared to this one?

The one on top is obviously fresh from the machine shop.
Yours still looks virgin...
Again, they're all the same for the 2600i.

I would say the heads are the same OTHER than the combustion chambers. Either you can't see the recess I am speaking of or you are saying they mill that off all heads. (which would be incorrect) I am only trying to understand why my combustion chambers are not the same as other heads I see. I took another photo after cleaning it up some then drew lines where the .030 recess is. If that was milled out, the head would be junk. If you don't know, I really don't wish to argue with you and the others in this thread could respond at least saying they have no idea.
