Having a bit of a hard time staying motiavted now, lol. For some reason, I dunno. I should be excited that its almost over, lol... I guess its cause I don't get to weld anymore or cause I'm pooped cause of all the slag cleaning, haha. Took a wire wheel to them all and they look like they're polished now, haha.

I POR 15'd my frame. Its designed to go straight over rust. Apparently it sticks better to the rust so I'm interested to see how it works for you because a lot of the metal had been grinded off before you painted it. I think they sell a metal 'seasoning' paint to prep clean new metal with. But who knows I wanna see how it holds up because I do love the stuff..

It is really messy too. I got it all down my arms ha ha.

UPDATE!

I added in the shock mount tabs to the equation. Took me longer than I expected and did'nt have much patience on this one cause the axle tabs are retarded, lol.

Stupid FBI...

I ground down the spots for the shock tabs on the rear end and the por-15 really held well. I don't think it necessarily matter if its bare metal or not. The key is it being rough, not smooth. I noticed that some parts on the frame did'nt take the por-15 well. It flaked off, but its because it is smooth. Although, some, like the sides of the notches really held well to my surprise and its smooth.

So I found out some problems along the way and need info!

1. My water traps won't mont to the side ports on the tank. Do hardware stores carry those PTC fittings or is that gonna be a special order? I figured I will have to mount them somehow and then run an airline to the tank from the water trap...
2. I need a little help on figuring out the size shock I need. Or is there a place I can get special shocks? Cause I mounted the shock tabs so it would be 13.5" eye to eye. That would allow me to have a 1" longer shock to be 14.5" at fully collapse. I just need to know then if there is a shock that will give me UbEr amounts of travel? Hmm.. yea, rambling?
3. Don't I wire dual battery's in series or parallel, and where?
4. What do you guys use as far as a fitting to run a little fitting for the guage? I only have 4 T's and thats it and dunno how else I can plumb the gauge for the tank?

Well, without further ado, I promised some pics! Only 3 this time, but hey, its something!

But is it good?

Shock mounts look good (I like the axel mounts!). One comment/observation... If the shock is mounted at an angle to the axel instead of vertical you will get more travel and a little softer ride.

About the shocks - if yu have a decent auto parts store near by ask if you can look at there shock book/catalog. Most that I have seen will have a section in the back that lists the collapsed and extended length of each part number and also the type of end mount. Thru a little reasearch you may find exactly what you need. If you have multiple choices look at the type of vehicle the shock was designed for and go with the lighter vehicle.

Did you build your shock setup with shocks installed? If not, you may have trouble finding a shock that will fit, and also get the travel you need. Especially since the shock is mounted to the axle and you have your bags mounted so far forward. Good luck finding a shock with 15" of travel thats less than 2 feet long. You might need to look into a reservoir shock to get more travel out of a shorter shock body.

And the battery tray needs gussets or the weight will pull it off the side of the frame and leave you with a nice hole.

I forgot about that, lol. Thanks though! I actually got on the phone with a schucks guy as I was doing the brackets finding one that had the most travel... Not alot of them had much.

But as I did the shocks, I used my stock ones from the truck and set them up that way. Although, if I get new stockers, that would mean they are fully collapsed when laid out. But I think I will get an ass ton of travel though, haha. Well it looks like they do atleast.

I will have to google up this resevoir shock you speak of! lol..

I was thinking about gusseting it, but kinda had doubts to need them cause I cant even get it to flex pulling myself up on it! Eh, time to bust out the welder, lol.
