i sent you another pm but i forgot to ask ya is the bottom bolt just a stock hinge bolt with a nut on the back side

ok and which would be better the 1/8 or the 3/16 for the reinforcement on the end of the tailgate

Probably the 3/16" plate. Can't remember what I used and can't get to the truck at the moment. Best bet would be to determine how thick the stock hinge is when closed and then figure out how much space you have to work with (pull the inside panel off, remove the stock latch mechinism, then find something to measure the space available with the tailgate closed.

well i took the weekend off from working on the truck to spend some time with the family but here are a few pics of what i got accomplished last night after work the first two is where i stripped everything for the tailgate latches

hinges welded to reinforcement plates and those welded to the tai this one just shows how everything lines back up with the gate c and the finished product

and i get a full 90 degrees before it hits the tail light

i still need to add some shims to my bottom hinge to get the latch side to line up right. thanks immortal for the pics and the advice on pulling this one off

i sure can which side do you need and if you noticed i cut the small side of my hinge but i actually cut it a lil short but it still worked out good and i used 3/16 for my reinforcment plates. didnt have a long enough piece to make it in one piece so i just welded them in where i put the hinges which they are only like an inch apart my next task at hand is getting my rollpan on this week so i can finish body working everything and get it in some paint

Very nice.If I didn't have a spare cali combo I would consider doing this on the next B I build.
