Hey dropped, give this a little try..
Now according to:
The OD of the bag is 6".
So, if you take that measurement and add 1/2" to it so its 6 1/2" I would think that by doing so you can cut your upper bracket at this so it mounts to the bag and still has 1/2" clearance behind the bag at the frame rail. You may even need to go less, but I figure your thumb would be about that thick.
So with that said, get the upper bracket parallel with the lower with the bag out. Drop a plumb bob or even a weight like a small lead weight for fishing and drop it through the upper bracket. You then can use it to center up the lower bracket. Which means now, your lower should'nt be sitting on top of the balljoint.
Play around with it like that and see what you get. I'm sure you already know that if you need to tack it in to see what you get.
By the looks of it, you still have too much angle on the brackets and it is'nt collapsing in on itself or else the top and bottom of the bag would'nt look like that.
Well anyways, give her a whirl and see what you get! Its what I would try and do atleast...
