project "cheap azz" update 1-6-12

well i figured i would start a build post
my goal is to build a nice driver for as cheap as possible
so here we go
9-2-08
purchased this decent little 91 with a siezed engine for $200 off craigslist

the next day the deconstuction began

few days later started the build
the static drop was done in my driveway just for nostalgia reasons
i kinda missed having gravel stuck in my knees LOL
first thing was a mono leaf rear and 3"blocks $40
build total $240




much better
next came the front


dont forget to trim your shock tower or it will hit

bump stops suck so they went away

flipped the ball joints

down in front

ok that does it for the static drop
and before anyone says something everything i cut will get ground smooth later. the truck is getting bagged so i wasnt to worried

the donor truck arrives aka"hackalicious" $1000
build total $1240
removed engine and trans from my truck sold trans for $50
build total $1190



this truck has a ton of goodies on it
great engine/trans
factory a/c
some crazy ass alarm system,suicide pass door and tailgate,4 linked rear with bags,front drop spindles and bags,dual compresors with 8 vavles and 2 5 gallon tanks,electric windows,some wild billet grill w/escort lights,toyota chrome front bumper and valance,electric poppers in doors,some decent sheetmetal
tons of other stuff also
alot of it will be for sale
ok back to my truck LOL

got a bit more done this weekend
cleaned a hole in my shop for the truck
started the body drop




figured while i was at it i might as well z notch the rear frame


the frame will get plated where the z is !!
this is just the chassis mock up to make sure it is all square and straight
hmmm not to bad for a static dropped truck huh?

ok on to the bed

gonna finish welding up the body drop this week and
hopefully start the baggin next week
i will post up often as this build is gonna go fast
and hopefully cheap

Looking good. What are you doing with the ext cab truck? One thing that concerned me was the mono leaf drop you did. I know you're going to bag it BUT the helper (fat) leaf should be UNDER the main leaf not on TOP. otherwise it defeats the purpose and you're just using it for a lil extra drop which you could have gotten more out of a 4" block. I'm not knocking, just mentioning it for others who might want to do a static drop and copy your mono leaf. I love the bodydrop look of your truck, I will definetly follow up on this build as BD is on my list to do in the future. Keep on trukkin...

why did you opt to build the standard cab and not the cabplus

the reason i did a regular cab is i like the proportions of the cab and box alot better than the cab plus.
if i was to do an extra cab i would do a long box on one

the extra cab truck i bought is just a donor truck it will be getting cut up and parted out
i am using the bags,engine/tranny and a few other things off it.

and the reason i put the overload spring on top is to help dearch the main spring and also it helps with axle wrap---puts the pressure on the rear of the spring under acceleration instead of the front..i have run this setup for years and never had a problem..

It's looking really nice. I see what you mean now with the leaves. I hadn't seen that done before. I'm contemplating it now, But i'm gonna bag eventually so why bother...LOL. How many " did you BD your truck?

I see you bought Lexie's cab plus. Are you gonna sell the fiberglass door panels or the bed cover?

^^Todd I dont know if you seen where he called the cab plus "hackalicious". I wanted to buy this truck from Lexie but she didn't want to go lower than $1800. Then I heard from a few guys that it was pretty hacked up. I would have gave a grand for it but just for parts.
