nobody has ever explained to me how exactly you measure to drill the hole in the tranny and how you mount the sensor and everything. indepth details about that would be awesome.

I'll try to get some pics up later, can't really get a good shot in the garage...it's a little crowded..lol. I was actually surprised that there is as much spacing between the firewall and head that there is. I still have the trans unbolted in case I need to raise the back of the motor a little to hook every thing up. I was hoping to get alot more done tomorrow, but have to work....so..slow goes progress...lol.

Justin, as far as what I done to locate the hole for the crank sensor, I just took some measurements from the Kia trans, and tranferred them to the Mazda tranny. I think I'm going to have a friend machine a bracket for the sensor, then just bolt it to the trans. I'll try to post some pics of it when I get it together...hopefully not much longer. I can't wait to drive this thing with a little more power.

As for the sensor, i went and found a copper fitting that fit around the sensor snuggly. I then pulleda measurement from the kiatrans from center of the bolt below it. Then i measured from the plate on the block to the center of the flywheel marks. Transfer that number to the trans from the edge of tranny then thats the center of your hole after cutting my hole with a tapered bit i put the sensor in its sleeve. Then i put it into the hole till the sensor touched the flywheel and marked it. Then i pulled it out and marked it so it would be the propor depth. From what im told thats about 1/32") then i set it to depth where it would be and made sure it was snug. Then i cleaned the sleeve and the area on the trans well and mixed a batch of jb weld and spread it around the sleeve. Then i tooch a couple 10mm nuts and did the same next to the sleeve. So the sensor can actually be removed and replaced if necessary. And yea i guess the. Clearance isnt horrible. I have things run a little different than normal so it was close. At first with the tranny not hooked up it looked real good then whith it in it seemed to rock back alot. As of right now all i have to do it literally hook up three wires then put the fuel pump in. I should be running tomorrow. Today tied up some loose ends on it. Instaed the airbox etc. When im done i and its clean it should look like a pretty factory setup.

Pulled the tank from the Kia today and although I could probably make the in-tank pump work, it's probably in my best interest not to. I'm going to check with another yard to see if I can come up with another sending unit and if not I'm going with an external.

Got everything done today. Well in the truck anyway. Everything was done as diagrams pinnouts ets say they should be. Got no love on the startup. Not hearing the pump kick on. I did bridge it from the pos and got fuel. And tried to start and still got no love. Im wondering if my relays are bad. This is frustrating. I used the for 4.0 in tank pump. I pulled out my tank unit (basically tubes) and cut them then spliced the ford units onto them at proper length then wired it in. I have power from the fuse box to the etc and its all wired and bridged as per diagram. Just no fuel unless hard wired and im guessing no spark as well since i tried with a bridged pump and it running. Im going to try the relays tomorrow and see if that might be the issue. I ran a probe on them and got funky/no readings from them on different points. I just want this thing to run! The only thing not done right now is the exh as im takin it to work soon as it fires to do the downpipe with cat and o2 bungs then do the exhaust as well here are a couple pics of it before ita all cleaned and whatnot. Soon as ir runs and has exhaust i will do a solid cleanup on wiring and the engine itself
Now in tank pump

Awesome that it's done, sorry it didn't fire up on the first try, but you'll get it,I'm sure. Now hurry up with that diagram so I can get mine done...lol.

Thanks yea i sucks but i kinda half expected it. I think theres a problem with the power distribution as the safc has constant power to it and should only be on when the ign is on etc and im guessing that since the power from the fuse/relay box is not working unless i hardwire it im pretty sure i dont have spark either. Im gonna attack it with a power probe and a multimeter on tuesday and try and get it sorted out. Im pretty sure its just a combo of power and power distribution from the box. But i want to get it sorted out before i go and write it up and possibly steer someone the wrong way. Im also gonna try new relays and see i that helps. But somethings not right in that region. I will try an work it all out then then post my findings
